HSsnowmen.gif Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 17th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Christmas QOTD: 'The message of Christmas is that the visible material world is bound to the invisible spiritual world.' ~ Author Unknown.'

HSsnowwelcome.gif Jadek - good to have you with us.
Hester - Hope your fingers return soon hon!
Mioliere - Thanks for the info that was really useful, but actually, my dental clinic IS now the emergency dentist for the entire bay. And I have been taking ibuprofen today and one of my strong anti inflammatories I have on repeat prescription and felt much better. I was trying to imagine what a cross between a pumpkin and a chestnut looked like - you need to post pics for us!!
Tru - Happy belated anniversary to you and Mr Tru! :heartsmil
Redruby - thinking of you honey. Big hugs.gif
Nelski - belated Happy birthday for you hon.
lowesy - Oh my, I am so so happy for you! HSstars.gifCongratulations!
Katies - we broke the lid on our big oval 6.5 litre slow cooker but found an oval platter that fits the top and have been using it quite successfully for about 3 yrs now.
Anniestar/Mark - I love reading your posts. Annies accident sounds awful, I do hope she is OK now.. hugs.gif
Flutterby - have a fabulous holiday and a great christmas!
Haribo - Still missing you
Cranky - thinking of you both
3Jays and Squiggles hellowave.gif

xmastree.gif Made the mince pies for my friend, they looked really pretty. I cut stars out of the tops of some and then used the stars as on top of the others in lieu of a top which meant I got more pies out of the pastry. And although it was shop bought mince, I did add a finely chopped apple and dried apricots to the mix.

xmastree.gif Am hoping the toothache will stay controlled now til tomorrow when I have my appt. When I rang to try and get an earlier one the receptist was really quite rude and said I was lucky to be able to see a dentist as they were very busy this week. She actually said - 'Well I wouldn't have booked you in at all, you should just rung every morning on the off chance we could have fitted you in'. So I feel rather lucky to have an appt for Friday!

xmastree.gif WM is on and I just set the BM going. Bacon sandwiches for breakfast as my OH goes to work a bit later today. Dinner will be a ham hock boiled for about an hour and then roasted in the oven.. Mmmmm. Course, if my toothache comes back then I will just stick to the mashed potato and carrot, smothered in gravy.

I hope that the day is the very best it can be for everyone, and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love, light and festive felicitations for all.

  • Morning MSD & all who cross or follow.
No snow so here far this morning, I love the snow but as we live at the bottom of a very steep hill it can make getting to work tricky, actually, do I really care if I can't get to work? Nah, probably not. Yesterday I produced the 'Order of Service' booklets for someones wedding along with everything else. Today I need to phone a book a service on one of my machines as it is on it's last legs, I'll book it for the first day back.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

Morning Diva and all who follow.
I was wide awake at 4am too:confused: this keeps happening to me!
Changed the bed and towels already, WM waiting to go on.

DD had her 20 week scan on Monday. They wanted to know what it was, but baby wouldn't oblige, and kept his/her legs shut!:rotfl:So they don't know.

DS rang me just for a chat yesterday, which was amazing as he usually wants something when he rings!:rotfl:Can't wait to see him on the 27th. Bet he's changed in the last months.:o

Sorry I haven't posted lately. Thanks to those of you who posted PM's asking if I was okay! Been having trouble with my Dad. He's lost loads of weight. Down to 7 stone, but the hospital can't find anything wrong. He's also really stroppy lately, taking it out on me. Must try and not rise to the bait.:o

The MS is causing me to have numb legs below the knee too, so walking is a bit odd! Still waiting to hear when my ESA tribunal is. Probably in January.

Well hope everyone is okay. ((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))) if you are not.

    Have a great day!:T

  • Good Morning Everyone

    (((hilstep)))

No snow here either, think we are meant to have it tonight.

Had a mad day yesterday with work so nothing done around the house :eek:managed to get to the worktop shop who have told me when you have to replace 1 worktop you have to replace them all - dont think the insurance company are going to be happy with that, need to chase them about the garage - have sent of the list of damaged contents and havn't heard anything back.

So today I really need to get my finger out - DD has orthodontist this morning which is 45 mins away. As soon as I have dropped her back to school must wrap up the kids pressies as DS' last day is today. Have the diswasher repair man coming this afternoon at last :jand am out tonight with old friends for our Xmas meal. Am looking forward to going but its an hour away & I hope the snow doesnt come before I get home.

Must renew books at the library today - will try and do that online. So much to do and so little time, lucky I got up early this morning!

  • Morning Chums,
I too woke early I think it must be thinking about Christmas and trying to remember if I had forgotten anything IYSWIM. I have my lovely sis-in-law coming down today. First time she has been away from her DD and little girls for 10 months since her son-in-law died. Tonight we are all going out for a meal to celebrate my DD's 40th birthday on this Saturday.
My niece has finally found a place to rent in Westerham, but her and the girls can't move in until 7th January.
Weather isn't looking too bad at the moment ,certainly not as frosty as yesterday, typical I bought some more de-icer because I thought we were in for a cold snap, still it will get used I expect. My son-in-law is trying to book up a pantomime for us all on New Years Eve.We went last year and the little ones loved it ,so did the big ones as well. We are all going to the cinema on Christmas Eve in the afternoon as it takes the kids minds off the big day next day and seems to calm them down a bit. Tomorrow is the boys carol service in the morning, slight possible hangover permitting, I shall go along.
well time I got a wriggle on and got the kettle boiling
MSD bacon sarnies sound just the ticket this morning I think I shall go and get the bacon on as well, nice and crispy I like mine on toasted bread as well
take care all and Happy Birthday to Bargainbird and anyone else celebrating
    Cheers JackieO

    Good King Wenceslas looked out
    On the feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about,
    Deep and crisp and even.
Brightly shone the moon that night,
    Though the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
    Gathering winter fuel

    Morning :santa2:
In my calendar - a gift basket :snow_grin

Plumber came, replaced pump and diaphram, conquered a massive air lock, warmed up the house, made hot water come out of the tap (my favourite bit, lol), then left. One hour later, the whole lot stops working  He's coming back today to dismantle the boiler. It's a sealed system, how's the air getting in?

I ended up with a huge headache and fell asleep at 7.30 last night. I have 4 loads of wet washing but can't get it dry  Piles of ironing. I can't get to the shops til tomorrow (no money til then), and I forgot to order the turkey from my fave butcher. If someone could alter the calendar and delay Christmas by one week I'd be eternally grateful..................

Hi everyone. MSD - glad you're feeling better. There's nothing worse than toothache. That receptionist was nasty, wasn't she? Where I worked, we would do all we can to get people out of pain. If we were really busy, we would tell them to come in and, as long as they didn't mind waiting, we would fit them in between patients.

Here's a photo of the potimarron. It looks like a small pumpkin. Apparently, they keep for months so I shall get some more when I go shopping. I'm going to roast some of this one to go with dinner tonight.potimarron001.jpg

Wel, it's been really cold overnight here. I shall be glad when it's warmed up a bit, although we've been promised temperatures below freezing for a few days, and even -11 at night. At least it's not windy which would have made it feel even colder. I hope you are all keeping warm.

Hilstep- hope everything goes well for your Dad.

Redruby - hope your Dad is feeling better today.

I'm finishing off the Christmas cards today and will post them this afternoon, then I have some more wrapping up to do. I also have some ironing to do but that will wait until tomorrow, I think.

Well, I think I'll go and have another cuppa.

    Morning everyone

Cool and dry here, no snow this way.

48 hours till holiday time and I am now getting behind. Christmas present hunting failed at late night shopping, so I will have to resort to last minute madness.

ESSEX. Replacing more than one work-top is not uncommon. My friend's had matching carpet through the house and because the lounge one was damaged, they re-carpeted the whole house!

Bin day today, I guess I should leave a tip?

    So much to do....... _pale_

    Morning

My new plan of sorting the slow cooker out on a morning before I come in here seems to be working! Just fried off some smoked bacon bits and added to some stock with celery and green lentils for soup for kids dinner this evening - I got some lovely bread to go with it just 10p a loaf last night :T

My DD has a terrible cough - seems to be in her throat rather than her chest but i'm wondering whether to make her an appointment at the doc's to try and get her sorted for christmas......I feel like I might be getting it to:rolleyes: sounds like a good excuse to buy southern comfort - its great for killing germs:D (for me not my DD!!)

At least being under the weather hasnt spoilt her appetite - she wants me to go into the kitchen with her to see her idea....that means she's on the hunt for food!

    Have a good day
