  • Any good?

Thinking of getting one as o2 will deal one out with a 14 day return which is good as out of contract at the mo and looking for a new phone.
  • had a demo a good look at the phone today...to be honest did not exactly wow me at all. Its small and light and smooth in design and the software is ok but noticed it lags quite a bit when opening up applications. Also costs the same as getting a Iphone 3gs!!!!!. Very few apps out for it at the moment.....if i were you i would hold out to see how it changes...but overall not that impresses....think its more hype than anything.......

as everything else, its new, so there's going to be mixed reviews of it, and the applications developed for it will increase through time.... i played with one instore the other day, after having got my hands on one in the states a month or so ago...never experienced any lag, with multiple applications running, its the first phone i've seen that bridges the gap between the blackberry and the iphone... 800, 000 handsets cant be too bad a total to have sold so far, for a company stuck in the 90's they arent doing tooo badly on this one, giving it serious cionsideration when my upgrade is due in January

  • I've just recently finished an 18 month contract with o2. I was paying £35 pm for 600mins and unlimited texts, but on average spent just over £40pm.

I've been looking at the new Palm Pre for quite some time and stupidly thought they would give me an offer, even a minuscule one, but as it's such a new phone they won't (even after saying I will cancel). I'd be happy to have the £35pm contract they're offering on the pre (600mins, 500txts, unlimited browsing) but I would need more messages. They keep offering me to add £7.50 to my bill in order to get another 500txts, but I don't want to pay any extra monthly.

I know o2 aren't well known for their redemption offer's recently, but does anyone think/know if this will be changing in the future as the phone gets more established? Especially as Christmas is looming, but tbh I really don't want to wait that long!

See what offer they will give you on a SIM only deal. As sometimes they have given those.

12mth Simplicity contract currently gives you 1600 text, 800 mins plus unlimited date.

And then buy the phone PAYG if the pre is avaiable to purchase.

I purchased my iPhone 3GS on PAYG and use a simpicity contract with it.

If Pre were priced at £250, I'd have said it's a killer product, but at £450 price tag [PAYG], they are in iPhone/HTC/Nokia N900 territory which are superior to Pre.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

all of those are different phones, so am just wondering whats so inferior about the Pre in comparison to the others.... in your opinion of course,,,, thats the beauty of opinions, you cant be wrong.... just wondering! i think when it comes to a phone its all down to personal opinion, some people wont have a bad word said about the iPhone, some wont ever swap from a blackberry, etc etc

I have used Palm PDAs for 6 years and I was their avid fan. However, Palm was too slow to respond to the market. Their WebOS is not backward compatible (ie. Palm OS apps won't run in them). Right now, Pre's biggest deficiency is in non availability of applications as its WebOS is too new in the market. Agreed that it might catchup later but it might not as well.

Palm has basically killed their old operating system. In contrast, 90% of DOS apps still work in Microsoft Windows platforms! Palm was struggling financially recently as their market share (PDA/Smart phones) just dwindled. They are just trying to revive with Pre.

All other platforms, like iPhone, Android, Symbian etc. are now established and you are guranteed to get lots of applications.

As I mentioned already, Palm could have become a king in Smartphone market again if they had priced Pre correctly.

Palm - a good company spoilt by management lacking vision (now don't want to start how Labour is doing same with Britain :D )
