I wonder if the OP is related to MrKringle? We all evolve - get on with it0

One way to stop this from happening again is to pop along to the doctor and ask about the arm abatement programme. You may qualify on the NHS if you are prone to dipping in your pocket to buy everything in sight.
This short procedure reduces the length of your arms by about 5 inches, thus removing your ability to get into your pockets.
If you do not qualify on the NHS, you can always buy a pair of trousers that have deep pockets0 -
You've never taken an item back because it's cheaper elsewhere or you've found a better alternative? Even if it's within your rights? You're either a liar, or a fool.
And can you not see how stupid your post is?
It is NEVER within your rights to get a refund just because you have changed your mind unless the STORE OFFER IT as a promotion (which is very rare).0 -
If you had asked at the time of purchase then it would have formed part of the contract. In the circumastances as you have described it's at their discretion, which unfortunately isn't in your favour. Remember their "help" when choosing where to shop in future.
This also explains the discrepancy between the party policy and the OP bringing things back after the fact.0 -
Now, I'd apologise for being rude if the person I quoted wasn't rude to a new member in the first place. The way that person spoke, was that it was beyond contempt that someone should return something when they were well within their rights to do so, and not because of inconvenience, in the way you describe.
No you replied to someone who expressed themselves in a mature and businesslike manner. They were curt and clear with what they said, but they were not rude.
On the rights thing, there is no right to return goods you don't want or need.
Some shops may have a refund policy, but this is not part of your statutory rights.
And sure I have on occasion took something back when I got it for less elsewhere. I wouldn't take offense or call you rude if you declared me cheeky for doing so, because you would be merely stating fact.0 -

And how silly are you sounding when that is what I've been stating all along. It is not your statutory rights to be able to take an item back because of a change of mind. I know that! But if a store gives additional rights, i.e. a refund policy where you can take an item back for WHATEVER reason (plenty of stores offer this - want me to name them?) within a certain period, then that has formed part of the contract when the item was purchased!
As I said, these policies are in addition to your rights, but are still part of the contract. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

You call that post mature and businesslike? mmmm.. ok.There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Must admit I thought the same, I'd never dream of taking something back to a supermarket unless it was, say, mouldy or unuseable!
I agree, it's not something that would have ever crossed my mind to do. I'd be quite happy keeping 3 bottles of champagne though**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D
