Morrisons refuse to refund unopened Champanges

Dear All,
I bought 3 bottles of champange in Morrisons about 1 week ago as Christmas gifts for friends. However, then some better gifts came up and I bought them instead. I therefore do not need the 3 bottles anymore. I brought them back to Morrions for a refund with their receipt. The champange were unopened, and of course in original condition. The manager came out and said they will not refund any alcohol bought in Morrions. And this is their policy.
Funny enough, I remember a similar incident 2 months ago when I bought two bottles of wine from Tesco and had to return them. Tesco did not make any fuss and gave me a full refund.
I wonder if there is anyway that I can pursue it further with Morrisons. Am I within my rights to request for a refund for something that is obviously unused and in good condition.
Many thanks for all you help.:D

Try a different store.
Or, take the other gifts back!.....0 -
I am not sure either. However, my previous experience on refund with Tesco was so easy. That made me expect similar service at Morrisons. To be honest, when I bought the champanges, I did have some hesitation. But then I thought to myself, if they were needed then I can always bring them back for the refund. Little did I know that Morrisons actually do not allow that.0

There is nothing wrong with the Champagne so why should they refund you>?
They are under no obligation to do so.0 -
It looks like the consensus here is that they don't have to refund me. That is fine. I accept that I have learnt a lesson the hard way. However, Tesco really have given me the refund without any fuss last time. It was more pleasant there. I think I will better shop there instead of Morrions in the future.0

I would have thought that wine has to be stored under controlled conditions. Once sold that control is lost. So presumably the Supermarket could not put the wine back on the shelf for resale. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

There is nothing actually wrong with the champagne, its not faulty or out of date so they do not need to give you a refund. I work for a retailer who sells food and drink and customers cannot take back food or drink simply because they have changed their mind. Anything could have happened to it (product could have been tampered with, etc) so it wouldn't be able to be resold and therefore it would be binned, wasting it and losing the store money.
Keep it and drink it!0 -
Champagne has a cork in, if it isn't stored properly it can be ruined. Most wine has a screw cap these days and so can be stored any which way. Other than fine or vintage wines, temperature is far less of an issue for wine as for champagne.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Just have to drink it. If you don't want to send it to me as I offer a free alcohol disposal service. I even promise to recycle the bottles.Iva started Dec 2018.0
