As first time buyers it's probably the best time. Both off between christmas and new year, so can be lugging furniture around. Also washer/dryers & fridge freezers can be bought in January sales (parents buying us a washer/dryer from the John Lewis clearance).
New year, new start.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -

I would agree with this - we are first time buyers too and this period gives us the time we need to sort out moving / decorating etc.
Also, we have holiday left over every year which we just use on random days off, with no particular purpose; this year we can actually do something with our time!0 -

What about any heating, plumbing or electrical problems you may discover the house has?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
I thought we were the only ones aiming to complete so close to Christmas!
We are due to exchange either Thursday or Friday and then complete on Monday as well - it's been such a stressful period! Monday is the last day our sellers sols can complete on so it has to be done then!
I'm going to check the house on last time tomorrow and then providing everything is working etc we should be able to complete!0 -

I am a first time buyer who lives with parents. If there is a problem, I stay at my parentsDon't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0 -
We exchanged on 4th December and completing on Thursday! Both off for two weeks so plenty of time to sort things out, which will be great. Glad we have a week before Christmas just in case there's any issues to resolve. Good luck to all and Merry Christmas in your new homes!I'm proud of my advice, if others want to look I say enjoy the show!0

We exchanged and completed yesterday - Yay! Had the choice of this week or 1st week Jan. We chose now!
Husband is off till he starts new job on 4th Jan and I'm off from next week till 4th Jan. So we plan to redecorate/get work done this week and move stuff this weekend. Gives a week to settle in before Christmas and then more work outside once inside is done.
But what works for some may not work for others I guess - each to thier own!
(BTW we only viewed the property for the first time on 10th October - so pretty quick turnaround helped by a fantstic solicitor!)0 -
Hi there, we were hoping to be able to exchange and complete on Friday but thats gone by the wayside because of our buyers conveyancers being pants. it might happen on 22/23/24 december which is what we are hoping for fingers crossed we could be moving in Christmas eve.0

I've got 10  properties that are due to complete on Friday, luckily 7 of them exchanged today and just frantically chasing to get the other 3 through........these were supposed to happen last week.
I feel for everyone waiting to hear whether they will move in time for Xmas or the Stamp Duty holiday end, as stressful as it is for me I bet it's 10 times worse for you!
Fingers crossed it all goes the plan :beer:My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to sayIgnore......check!0
