If you are a fully acredited geothermal installation engineer, then you should know that a air/air unit with a inverter is energy efficient. Of course renewables are not going to be suitable in every case, but there are ways to use them in conjunction with other systems.

However can i throw this spanner in the works and ask the following question:

Why cant an electric heater use a chemical that when heated with an element it produces more heat through the chemical reaction or indeed stores heat once reaching a desired temperature? I'm no advocate of any of the brands discussed in this thread but surely there must be some mileage in heating a chemical compound/fluid that enhances the energy being introduced??

Many thanks in advance. I'm very keen to hear your thoughts on this? Gareth

Welcome to the forum.

The answer lies in the 1st Law of Thermodynamics which states that energy can neither be created or destroyed.

So we can only convert energy from one form to another, and cannot(unfortunately!!) create energy from nothing.

It would be easy to fill a radiator with a chemical that released heat by chemical reaction, but the chemical becomes a consumable. Were it not so, we would have perpetual motion.

The classic example might be a nuclear reactor - a little energy input produces a huge energy output.

Even the simple coal fire enables us to convert energy.

A heat pump, however high its COP, does not produce more energy than it uses. It transfers energy(heat) from the air/soil outside the house(thus cooling the surrounding area!) to the house.

The same with solar or wind turbines, they just convert the energy of the sun/wind.

If you want to know how much money the sales staff are paid, Bright Heating were recruiting in the Daily Mail for sales staff at target earnings of £70k.

Does this ad mean much to anyone? Or anyone apart from a salesperson?
OTE £70k p.a. Must have a car, mobile and web access. Self-Employed Role
So ... it's self-employed - and OTE (Over Target Earnings) £70k p.a. ... so what's the target you have to exceed to get anywhere near £70k p.a.?

What would be interesting is to know how much commission the salespeople (aka 'highly trained blah blah') get out of the few hundred quid each over-priced so-called energy-saving heater costs - when we know you can buy a minimum order of a hundred delivered to a ship at a Chinese port for far less than ten dollars each (see here). OK, Bright Heating on its website (here) says its heaters are made in Germany - but the range of heaters on display in the Chinese factory's website (before the branding is applied!) include ones looking very like some of the makes mentioned in this thread. Makes such as Rointe, Farho, Economy Radiator Company (Economical Radiator Company), Suka, Redwell, ELTI, Calortec, Ducasa, intelliheat, .....

It's relevant to mention again the rulings this year and in 2011 from the Advertising Standards Authority (here) against Rointe. And, of course, there are quite a few comments about dubious claims by other makers on this thread. Economy Radiator Company withdrew two ads in 2007 and 2011 (see here) rather than have a formal adjudication from the ASA: there are posts about these heaters in another thread (here).

IIRC the 550W heater is £700 and the 2.5kW or so is £1400.

• Hi

Rointe has asked us to post a clarification as right of reply. MSE doesn't endorse anything a company says on the Forum.

Anyone who doubts that our radiators are made in Spain are
welcome to visit our factory in Santomera, Murcia to see for themselves.

If you check one of our radiators, each fin is stamped with the Rointe
logo which would not be possible if they were bulk bought from China.
Could you do with a Money Makeover?

Good that Rointe reads MSE forums! And good that their heaters are made in the EU.

I see that "Rointe Master Installers", members of the "Rointe Club", get invited to the HQ and factory in Santomera (and to enjoy paella and golf*) so it's good they have extended the invitation (maybe without the paella and golf!) to people doubting Rointe heaters are made in Spain. Virtual visits to their HQ on Google Earth, and Street View, end up outside what looks like a builders' merchant - with no sign of a Rointe logo - or indeed of their parent company (Industrias Royal Termic Sl) at all! Maybe a photo located at the right place would solve the problem? We all know Google Earth has errors!

Anyone reading this who is thinking of buying Rointe heaters would be advised to read earlier posts in this thread.

*Download the 24 page pdf about the "Rointe Club" here: http://www.rointe.co.uk/publications/pdf/rointe-club-dossier.pdf

YOU ALWAYS WIN WITH ROINTE!
......
Rointe is a grateful company that knows how to treat people who show their loyalty. As such we have designed a series of advantages for those who excel and are chosen to become Rointe Master Installers.
In the visit to our Headquarters you will be able to get to know our installations, ...........

After the visit you can discover the delicious Spanish gastronomy and get to know our rich culture.

Rointe Heaters..

Read the electricians forum - some posters make sense.

I have no idea where Rointe radiators are manufactured.

Often, no idea if it applies to Rointe, products are simply assembled in a country from imported parts. Are Toyota and Nissan cars, assembled in Britain, UK manufactured cars? Sharp solar panels are assembled in Wales from parts made in the Far East.

To say it is 'not possible' to have the Rointe logo stamped on each fin if 'they were bulk bought from China' is just a nonsense. If the order is large enough the Chinese manufacturer will adorn merchandise with any legal logo the buyer specifies.

Anyway, since when has Spain had a reputation for engineering excellence? It wasn't until VW bought Seat that the car became worth buying.

The point about Rointe heaters is simply that their adverts are totally misleading and their products overpriced and they only give a 2 year guarantee on the parts that are likely to go faulty i.e. electrics and electronics.

As has been said many times, Rointe heaters produce no more heat, for the same running cost, than a £20 heater from Argos.
