How long do you keep meat in the fridge?
I only buy meat when I am cooking it that day
Does the stuff you buy not have a sell by/use by date?
I would look at the settings on your fridge. We all evolve - get on with it0 -

It makes sense to me now, but I have to say the fault may be with your fridge, and certainly with the way you buy your meat.
The way you explain it, you buy two pieces of meat, eat one then before you are ready to eat the second one it has gone off, so you throw it out and have to go out and replace it.
What you need to do is buy one piece of meat, eat it, then when you are ready for another one go out and buy one. This still involves two trips to the shop, but cuts out throwing away one piece of meat.0 -
I shop at sainsburys but i buy my meat and eggs from the local butchers it works out cheaper and it better quality0

I shop at sainsburys as I work there
, you can buy online and get it delievered. You can see if they can deliever to your address via their website. If its only the meat you are concerned about buy locally.

That's a good point and, regarding eggs, a real beef of mine (ho ho!). Supermarket prices for free range eggs are disgraceful. I can buy much fresher ones from local farms for far less and in my local market can even buy one of the brands (Hoad's Farm) for around 20p less per half dozen.
For all sorts of reasons, patronising local shops makes sense - not the least of them money saving!0 -

I have seen the phrase I have highlighted in bold a thousand times in this forum, but I can't work it out.
What do you mean "it works out cheaper"? Either it is cheaper or it isn't, where does the working out come into it.
I have 3 butchers in my town, and all are more expensive than Morrisons, which is where I buy my meat. I look at a cut of meat in Morrisons and it is £4.50 per kg, then I go to the butchers and the exact same cut of meat is £6 per kg.
No matter which buttons I push on my calculator, I can't make the butchers meat work out cheaper
I can look at the meat and think it is better quality, be sure it will taste better, even convince myself if I eat it I will be more attractive to women. But I can't make it work out cheaper!0 -
Hi all,
I am sure this tipic already was discussed 10000 times, but I could not find the relevat discussion. My question is whether or not Waitrose products are really so much better than Tesco? We currently shop at Tesco, spend about £50-60 per week. My main issue with Tesco is the quality of meat, I am no expert in meat, but even I can feel that it is not satisfactory. Our neighbours told us that Waitrose is so much better in this meaning and we should start shopping in Waitrose, even if it is more expensive. So, it is really worth?
I find it cheaper because I waste very little now because its so fresh it lasts all week.
When I shopped more in Tesco/Sainsbury I threw too much out.
The price match with Tesco anyway.0 -

Are you saying that when you shop in Tesco et al, you buy food you can't eat before it's use buy date, so have to throw it out and go back and buy the same thing again?
Or are you saying that when you buy food from Tesco et al you eat it and have to buy more, but when you buy food at Waitrose you don't eat it, therefore don't have to buy more?
My take on it is Waitrose food lasts the week.0 -

I get 30 (so 5 boxes) of eggs from a local farm (so free range you gotta watch you don't run them over) medium sized for £5.00:D0 -
I don't have a link but am surprised people are mentioning Waitrose above Tescos for meat- I could be reading wrong (I don't buy meat you see) but on the hidden brands thread (forget the board!) there were several posters claiming that prepackaged meat was more often then not produced by a whole seller which the supermarkets bought. The Supermarkets would then apply their label's and hey presto, own brand meat. I even read one poster who worked in Asda had unwrapped some boxes only to find the same product but with another store's brand labels on!
As for my point of view- I'd have to rate fresh fruit and veg from Tesco over Waitrose any day! I have never eaten so many bad/off/bruised items of fruit as I have from Waitrose! Then they have the audacity to charge more for it!! Luckily I feel able to complain and often get my money back when I have bitten into a prepackaged fruit salad and had it 'fizz' in my mouth (as its off!)
However, some (not all) fruit from Tescos is slightly under ripe. Works very well if you live alone and have time to ripen foods or just prefer a crunchy apple rather then a fluffy textured one! Something I prefer but others may not
Most of the self label foods are pretty similiar wherever you buy, so I'm not surprised over the wholesale meat scenario.
Tesco do sell some under ripe fruit - I find it ideal as I can buy a batch of fruit which all ripens at different times during the week.
I've found the same with Morrisons - it just doesn't last the week like other supermarkets do.
Don't buy pre-packed fruit salad at all - too expensive for what is in, I'd rather buy fresh and do it myself (even if you waste some, it is still cheaper).[/QUOTE]
Umm, I wrote that...(above)^^
:rotfl: (was it that good!;))0
