Waitrose or Tesco?

  • Waitrose is far better in every aspect to Tesco et al, as i have stated in previous posts we find waitrose far cheaper, as the food lasts longer and we are not forced to buy new food, and we are not sucked into the 'bargins' in other supermarkets. For meat, Waitrose cannot be beaten, their essentials chicken is better than Marks Oakham and always comes out of the oven with plenty of juice :) and you get a better range of meats. The produce is far better and you get items you dont get elsewhere.

The only time you should really go to Tesco et al is for branded goods, otherwise stick to a stressfree calm shop.......

I remember buying a chicken and a pack of Rachel yoghurts that had gone off from Tesco on two separate occasions but it never occurred to me to complain as it was pre MSE days.

I converted to Waitrose a few months ago and I love it. I find the food is much better quality and fruit and veg stay fresh for longer and generally much better and the shooping experience is more enjoyable. I would rather spend my money on quality food that I use rather than buying rubbish at Tescos and throwing half of it away!

Waitrose is just down the road from me. On the day before the christmas break they halve the price of free range birds, I hover with a few other hopeful souls for half an hour or so and we get the pick of the bargains when they reduce them. Just a tip :)
  • I shop at Waitrose and Morrisons and Sainsburys and Asda and Aldi and sometimes Tescos lol.
I think the worst for meat is Asda & Tescos.
The best is Waitrose and Aldis Free Range Chickens are very good.
As for staff politeness and service I have found both Sainsburys and Waitrose to be the best.
If I could afford to I would always go to Waitrose as I have found their quality of food to be excellent along with high staff levels and great customer service.
  • Waitrose do the best meat by far imo. The large roast chicken with stuffing is fab feds me and OH for two days and the bones cooked up makes great stock. Nothing is wasted. Even the cats get some leftovers. Morrisons is the best for fish. I quite like Sainsburys as well. Tesco is defo the worst.

I have read your post ten times, but still don't understand it

Are you saying that when you shop in Tesco et al, you buy food you can't eat before it's use buy date, so have to throw it out and go back and buy the same thing again?

Or are you saying that when you buy food from Tesco et al you eat it and have to buy more, but when you buy food at Waitrose you don't eat it, therefore don't have to buy more?

If you are lucky enough to live close to Waitrose their evening reductions on the meat & fish counters are amazing. I bought 2 sea bream fillets for £1 40 this week. Often get best quality mince for £2 a kilo.

LOL, the deli is another one. Ive bought a whole roasted chicken for a quid and they reduce the deli stuff to pence.

Another vote for Waitrose's meat. It is, as everyone else has said, more expensive, but at least it is palatable - which is a lot more than I can say for some of the stuff I have bought from Tesco in the past!

Of course, even better is a reliable local butcher, but I realise not everyone is lucky enough to have one of those.
