I don't really get why there is an issue with people driving and claiming bus fares as they will be worse off by driving but that's their choice, and they need to get to uni the same as people getting the bus.

I do tho have an issue with people claiming weekly fares when they can get monthly ones or whatever for probably 50% less or something, just because they can. My course is 43 weeks long and so what I spend cant' be covered by the max amount they can give but that's ok by me, better than nothing, and so when I hear about people bumping up claims I hope they are joking.

btw you can claim more than £995, that's the maximum if your course is 30 weeks long, which many are not, many are longer.

You can claim for more than that, but you the maximum you can receive is somewhere in the region of £850.

I used to be able to buy a ten week card before the monthly payment system was introduced, now the longest I can get is four weeks without using all of my payment at once.

Last year I got approx £1100 or so too because my course was over 30 weeks.

So £955 (1114-159) plus... if your course lasts longer than 30 weeks, we will pay up to £15.40 more for each extra week.

I wish SAAS did more checks, just so they would be more likely to catch those lying on their claims.

Such a !!!! why would you wish this, Just because you might be loaded or being supported by mummy and daddy.

If students can get more money why not why settle for less.

Lol, my 'mummy and daddy' have not done anything for me since I was about seven. I am also not particularly 'loaded'.

I am just very against people who try to fiddle the system, thus depriving everyone else of what they could get. All this 'free' higher education costs money. When you are paying back all this money and more in taxes will you want your money to go on students funding their new games consoles, nights out, etc?

You seem to have to think all students are the same,

I for one dont go on nights out, or buy game consoles(hate them).
So that theory is just rubbish.

No, I know that everyone is different. I am more than aware of that. Some previous posters have commented on spending their money on such things. I use my money to try to recoup some of my travel costs, which are going up all the time.
  • I'll be spending mine on a new cooker :(

That's the reality of being a mature student.

^ I would say that was fairly essential. You need to be able to eat!
