Ooh Soappie massive massive hugs and blankets -
I have that contract (great as they do come out) and last time they asked if I had alternative heating and I said no ...
I HONESTLY forgot I have a gas fire because I use it so very rarely, the central heating is so efficient.
They'll remember next time though because I had it serviced this year...
and boy am I glad my kids are old ebnough to play out withour me because they are outside building igloos and snowmen and I am inside not cold...

Thank you Honey Bear0 -
Oh soappie - the worst time of year for it to break, it did it to us last year around this time and was horrendous (sorry but true) we could see our breathe, only saving grace is because we don't have a chimney we have an electric pebble effect fire and we huddled around that, though the meter went crazy!! Trying to do a strip wash in a kettles worth of water is not good!!

Oh no soappie that is terrible, hope they get it sorted quickly. Can you not decamp to DS's?
I could, but I won't, they don't really have the space. DS was here for lunch (DiL was working) and he did a lot of the tinkering so he has helped. I shall just have to be brave and stop winging. I remember, years ago, living without heating.... it wasn't fun, but I survived. I have found though, the halogen strip lights in the kitchen give off a nice amount of heat...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

Blankets gratefully received! They asked me if I had alternative heating and I said no. But, I do have a small electric heater lurking somewhere which I will put on if it gets too bad. I've also dug out the hot water bottle - at least I can still boil a kettle and there was enough hot water in the tank to finish the washing up. I do have an electric shower, but that's no fun when the ambient room temp is about zero!carlsberggal wrote: »Oh soappie - the worst time of year for it to break, it did it to us last year around this time and was horrendous (sorry but true) we could see our breathe LOL
Fortunately it's not at that stage yet, and I've battoned everything down - doors shut that aren't normally shut etc. etc.I am the leading lady in the movie of my life

soappie thanks for the culinary advice, 'tis exactly what I needed. Sorry to hear about the heating, does anyone you know have an oil-filled electric radiator? We borrowed one when no heating at all in November and two month old baby and it was just the job, cheap to run, too.

The MP sent a letter and we've heard nothing since.I think their only holding off till after christmas but we may be able to get a discount on the DNA test so we'll go ahead with that in the new year and hopefully that will be the end to it.

Glad the recipe was what you needed. I love the old cookery books I have - they seem to have far more useful recipes than even Delia or Jamie...
