She has been scavenging and has an upset stomach. Again. We are less than 24 hours through her 2 days starvation and she is driving me nuts.
She's progressed from chasing her bowl round the floor, to grunting loudly whilst sitting at my side and nudging me every couple of minutes. The next stage will be barking continuously and nipping my toes, until I say very bad words to her.:o (in my defence, experience has shown that a firm "no" has no impact when she's desperate.) She then will sit directly in front of me and stare pleadingly. For hours. Until I cave in - usually at the 36 hour point.
So come on folks, own up. How many of you are strong willed enough to hold out the full 48 hours in the face of such severe provocation?:rotfl:(Doesn't count if you're under vet's orders.)

Oh.. I would not - not for 48 hours.
24 hours of no food followed by 3 days of boiled chicken (no skin or bones) with boiled rice, several times per day in small portions.
No way the dog is gonna be good and sane for 48 hours with no food....
Give her a belly rub from me, poor babe...0 -
Thanks.
The last time I only left it for 24 hours it wasn't long enough and we ended up at the vet, and I had to start starving her all over again. So now I try to play safe. He did warn me she'd act like her throat had been cut, but he doesn't know the half of it.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I did it once for about 36 hrs! I had to go to bed very early just to escape the pleading looks and nudging or Id have given in!
It did work though. I think the vet said that the gut lining takes about 48 hrs to regenerate itself so if you can last this long then when you do give gentle food there is a much better chance of it not upsetting the delicate lining.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -

I am seriously considering leaving home for the duration. Going to bed's no use unless I use earplugs. She lies at the bottom of the stairs and complains. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

You are lucky - my dog would have eaten me if I didnt feed her for that long! If she misses a meal she grumbles and starts eating carpet fluff!!!0

One of mine can't even do the 24 hours...he tries to break into the fridge & cupboards. Our vet recommended giving him some plain scrambled egg (no milk/butter), little and often, with a spoonful of live natural yoghurt. It always works a treat and I don't have to padlock the kitchen door

Hadn't thought of yoghurt - might give that one a go. 24 hour shopping has its uses. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Yogurt works with my 2 Border Collies, and they are very prone to upset tummies. They too have looks that can make me feel like the worst pet owner in the world..ever LOL!
As a bonus, they love the yogurt, and it settles them, and their tummy0 -
book the poor thing into kennels - with strict instructions no food! at least that way you will escape the pleading looks and hopefully they wont blame you!0

And in true MSE style... you know the BEST yoghurt is HM right?
and VERY easy to make (and incidently delishious too) - I've been doing that for the last 3 weeks now and have to say the dogs tummy is probably as good as it's been in the last 3 years we've had her
(as is mine which is prone to upsets...)
Oh and you can freeze yoghurt without killing the friendly bacteria
so if you DO buy it - put portion sized amounts in the freezer to give regularly
Kira gets it about twice a week
