I must have a very strange dog, as mine doesn't bother much if she is on a fast for 24 hours, at breakfast she is ok at tea she looks in her bowl a few times very sad eyes, and gets on her bed. I have to admit never had to do the 48 hour fast and I think she might get fed up and start eating her toys!

Update - with mutt's usual impeccable timing, the stomach upset has now triggered an attack of colitis which I don't have any meds for as it's ages since the last attack.
I'm meant to be taking her into kennels tomorrow and going away till Thursday. Can't really leave seeing the vet till I get back, and I'm at work till late tomorrow morning. Currently trying to sort out the logistics of getting mutt to the emergency surgery tomorrow morning then into kennels before they close at lunchtime. If they still want her - (she's also hobbling around with a sore foot.)
Otherwise I won't be going anywhere. Why does the little so-and-so alway times things to buggar up my social life.

They just seem to know when you're about to go away so do whetever they can to keep you at home :D

My OH once (very generously) agreed to stay home and nurse one of the dogs who decided to rupture his cruciate ligament 2 days before we were due to fly to Turkey to visit a friend. Dog had to have surgery fairly urgently and we felt we couldn't ask our parents (our only other source of dig-sitting) to take on the responisbility of looking after him in case anything went wrong.

Hope you manage to get something sorted for her and don't have to miss your trip.

Colitis confirmed, contacted the kennels and they've decided on balance they'd rather not have her in. I've got no-one else to have her as mum (dogsitter in chief) was coming with me on a family visit, so guess who's staying at home the next few days. :(
To be fair to the kennels, I think they'd have had her if I'd said I was really desperate, but I sort of thought if they're not keen on having her I'd be fretting what was happening all the time I was away anyway.
    Blooming animal.
I think I've tried offering her out before with no takers, but if anyone is desperate to rehome a bolshy expensive unhealthy 12 year old EBT I'm open to offers............

Oh bum...sorry you're going to have to stay home but at least you'll be able to keep an eye on the colitis situation.

And much as she sounds delightful :rotfl: I've no room for another at the moment :D

Thanks for the kind offer, but mutt is a bit unpredictable and best not inflicted on anyone (man nor beast) who doesn't know her well.
    I appreciate the thought though.

Ok, getting really fed up now and need to vent.

Mutt's colitis has meant that she wasn't absorbing her meds properly, so her incontinence has reappeared. Weeing everywhere and I'm fairly sure she's getting another urine infection. And my carpets will never be the same again.
While at the vet for the colitis he looked at her foot. It's not the mast cell tumours again, (thank heaven for small mercies) but the lump will probably need removing fairly soon due to the location.
And the zantac hasn't worked so we're back to considering the tube down the throat job to see what's going on, following her op to have the tooth out.
And she's starting to have another go at her leg - cue recurrent skin infection making its third visit.
And without wanting to tempt fate, it just seems like her health is just one thing triggering the next, ad infinitum. And even with insurance she's costing ma a fortune because of the huge excess and percentage of the final bill.
And I know it's not her fault, and there's nothing I can do about it, it's just that a couple of months without something new to see in the new year would be wonderful. If someone up there is listening to me. Please.

LOL!! :rotfl::rotfl: I used to think that until I actually started working in a kennels :eek: OMG! Now I think thank god we didn't do it!!

OP have you tried Tree Barks Powder from Dorwest Herbs - it is great for soothing poorly tums and is recommended for dogs with colitis. Apparently, it is so gentle you could give it to newborn human babies. I always keep a tub in for my gang.
