I have often left vouchers I would never use lying around the shop next to or on top of the product. Someone may have been able to use it. (or perhaps some of you lot picked them up and used them without purchasing the product - ha ha)

I agree that the use of the vouchers off goods you have not bought is fraud

Surprisingly it isn't. A voucher is but a piece of paper with print on it, if you offered a dead mouse and an old tobacco tin in exchange for your weekly shop and it is accepted by the vendor then a bargain has been struck, A price tag on an item or shelf edge is merely an offer to treat, the products actual value is ANYTHING the vendor is willing to accept in exchange. There is no act of fraud on the part of the purchaser, if however on the other hand the vendor then at a later time presents the voucher to the issuing company as having been exchanged for that product having not sold the product then a deception has taken place by the vendor! If the issuer/manufacturer is aware that it was not exchanged as part payment for the product and still accepts it then the vendor has made no deception. Despite what it may state on the coupon the customer has committed no deception whether it be a coupon or a dustbin lid.

I also don't fall for the 'my children would starve' or 'we would eat unhealthily if it wasn't for these vouchers' theme, food should come first and internet/phone etc 2nd, we're all on-line so no-one out there is starving.

I guess this was aimed at my post so I thought I'd reply. I don't pay for phone or internet and times are hard - I get it free from work. What I would say though is that a healthy diet is more expensive than a stodgy diet. That is why the life expectancy of someone from a poor background is lower than that from a rich background but that is going off the subject. As for your comment that nobody is starving - I guess that is down to your interpretation of starving. There are hundreds of thousands of people living in poverty in the UK. If I had money to throw around I wouldn't be on here.

On another note I agree with another post on here. If I offer a voucher and cash it is upto the store if they want to accept. If they don't want to they only need to say no.

    Regards

QUOTE=littlejaffa]Completely agree with previous posts, we can all read the t&c's on the vouchers that say they should be accepted against the product named only, the stores are really being nice/helpfull etc accepting any when you haven't actually bought the product.

I do understand why people try and use them in these cases but don't think you should expect to be able to.

BUT IF THE STORE ACCEPTS THEM AND HAS A SPECIFIC POLICY FOR DOING SO, WHY SHOULD WE NOT DO SO? WHY WOULD I THROW AWAY SAY, £6 WORTH OF 'SHOPPING CASH' GIVEN OUT FREELY IN THE MAIL ON SUNDAY THE OTHER WEEK? I WOULDN'T, IT WOULD BE DAFT!

AS STEBIZ SAYS, HAVING INTERNET ACCESS DOES NOT MEAN WE HAVE MONEY TO BURN (QUITE THE OPPOSITE FOR MOST READERS/CONTRIBUTORS TO MSE FORUMS). MY OH WORKS LONG HOURS, I WORK P/T, WE HAVE 4 CHILDREN AND A MORTGAGE AND STILL FALL BELOW THE 'POVERTY LINE' FOR A FAMILY OF 6. WE ARE IN A LOT OF DEBT AND HAVE BEEN EVER SINCE LAST CHILD'S BIRTH COINCIDED WITH OH BEING MADE REDUNDANT FROM 'JOB FOR LIFE' (NOT FORESEEABLE A FEW MONTHS BEFORE).

P.S. Sorry to have used capitals, and I'm not trying to get at anyone, just making a point....!

It was not aimed at your personally.
As this forum is not about personal politcs let me answer the general points.

1/A healthy diet need not be more expensive than a poor one (a carrot is cheaper than a bag of crisps etc).

2/It cannot be said people from poorer backgrounds have a shorter life expectancy because of a stodgy diet. There are many factors incl genetics, lifestyle & attitude - diet alone is not the end cause.

I said nobody here is starving, of course I agree there are starving people, but it's a term that's rarely used correctly.

I think it's important to stick to facts and not get personal here and my comment wasn't meant in anyway personal. PM would be the place for that not here, I answer here only in response to you.

On that i'll end all 121 chatter and let these good people get on with their freebie searching;) sorry to take up so much space without any good codes :o

  • Walkden (Manchester) accepted the quick read voucher and let me take 25% off the bill so long as the vouchers were different. He checked with the checkout supervisor at 6.30pm last night and scanned through just fine.

I agree it's worth a try, but it's clear from the t&c's that we shouldn't expect to get get it on products other than named.
I don't mean to sugest anyone on-line is rich etc, but think the word 'starving' is overused by people who really aren't, detracting from those who are and need our help.

not sure if your aware capitals mean your shouting - this is definatly my last post on this as I really don't think general forum is the place to be shouting and getting so personal.

oooh, tell me more, tell me more,

I'm a bit new to using vouchers if I have not bought the goods, but will give it a try but, how do you buy online e-vouchers off ebay? I'm into internet shopping at Sainsbury's, seen the slot where you put in the codes, but was not sure where you got them.

    Any advice out there?

Hello Jays, Sainsburys e-voucher codes are not permitted on this site. See this thread (something to do with legal issues)

Other money saving websites may have them though
