Was I wrong to say thank you?

  • They are quite frankly rude themselves and I wouldn't give them a second thought.

Continue to do the right thing, manners cost nothing and will carry your little one through life.

You will probably find everyone else who has received them will be delighted, especially as they had input from your little one too.
  • You've done nothing sad.

However, I never had, or ever went to, a birthday party as a child. And I've only encountered one person who sends thank you notes- so it's not something I'm remotely familiar with TBH. I do, however, have pretty damn good manners- it's just that this is something I've never come across.

With a rich vocabulary like that and an attitude like that I think it's pretty clear who the sad cows are, and it ain't the OP.

I was always brought up to send thank you letters. When we unwrapped birthday/christmas presents my dad always gave us paper and a pen each so we could keep a list of who gave us what.

I still write them now and i'm 25. I think it's good manners to thank someone for a present. Sadly I suppose some people these days expect presents so don't even think to thank people properly.

We always write thankyous from my girls. The youngest will just scribble on hers but the eldest will write who it is to & her name (she is 5). I think it is so important.

I guess it must drpend upon the circle you mix with as all DD's friends write thankyou notes.
  • I was bought up to write thank you notes and tried to teach my chldren to do the same. I say tried because when they were little I obviously helped them, and when they got older it was their choice. They chose not to, but did thank people when they next saw them. I have to say I don't write thank yous now, but do email them instead!
I think your SILs are horrible and rude, be happy in the knowledge your kids are brought up not dragged up!

I don't remember doing this as much as a child but do remember phoning relatives to thank them for cards and presents. I have a 15 month old son and we've sent thank you cards for Christmas and birthday presents. We have had postcards printed of a photo we have taken on that day as many of our friends/relatives don't get to see him very often and thought it would be a nice gesture and people have liked receiving them. Carry on with what you are doing like others have said I'm sure others were delighted to get them.

You are right. We always do thank you cards for presents.

OMG, what have you married in to?

Good luck and trust in yourself.

Carry on as you are Sarah, you've done nothing wrong. It's lovely to receive these little thank you cards, I've no children, but often get thank you cards from my nephews/nieces and they are on show until they fall over and turn yellow.
