Reading through this thread and yes the new card is a pain but im sure it will get sorted eventually - I had the same problems with paypal and its sorted now you just go back into paypal and try again (i then went to online banking and now the four digit code shows after a day or three) and it refunds all the other ones before it (the paypal charge not the £1.50 bank charge go into branch for them) - well it did for me.

I had a feeling the securecode wouldnt work yet so I skip that bit (it says cancel at the bottom in small writing - it makes you think your cancelling the transaction but your not) your cancelling setting up securecode) it then pays without securecode for now.

Ive had two stores refuse online still thinking its maestro so it flags up as false details

Today though ive tried online banking and theres no FPS dont know if this is just a glitch or whether its these cards again

Surely, the question anyone potentially getting one of these cards is whether the "benefits" (which don't appear particularly great, if any) are worth waiting on the problems which will get "sorted eventually". Especially given the fact that there is a tried and tested card which is unlikely to get refused.

Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank could easily have asked a test sample of customers to use the cards and report back and ironned out these issues first - instead of sending them out in the manner they did.

Well said and I dont see any benefits because the other cards worked fine for me for ten years or more - but no choice given just sent new card so I had to deal with it best I could.

The test sample are the first to get them and find the problems me thinks.

This is exactly what did happen before the cards were launched, as I pointed out earlier.

There are a couple of issues, firstly it's impossible to test every vendor in the world, so you are reliant on them having updated their systems with the information provided by Mastercard. Unfortunately, not all have, which means our customers are affected and we have had to deal with that reactively via Mastercard.

Then there are the issues that have arisen since testing - as those sites have made changes which subsequently create incompatability or processing anomalies, such as we saw with Amazon and Paypal and wasn't confined to Debit Mastercard. Again, all we can do is react to these and fix them asap, which we have.

As it stands Debit Mastercard is working normally.

    Hi

thanks i've replied, and i appreicate your help, but i think i'll just leave your bank. Really sitting there unable to speak and the lady just goes on and on about how her kids never shut up talking is a good way of been insulting. I'd wonder if someone went in with no legs if she' d have told then how she loves jogging.

Unfortunately, the Clydesdale along with other banks (athough most offer on-line applications so it is not a problem and sending ID by post) dont advertise they have a duty under the Disabiliti Discrimination Act.

If someone asks for a paper application for any servicedto be sent to them and to apply for an account by post they MUST be allowed. They must also be allowed to furnish their ID documents by post.

Try raising this in a branch or on the phone CB/YB will try anything to get out of it.

There will be no, that is fine Sir or Madam can I take your name and address and I will arrange to have the information sent in the post today, oh no. Try the same thing with another bank and mention the disability discrimination they will be trying everything to help.

If you want to try it with the Clydesdale Bank just find out a sort code or a number of them and dial 014-958- then the last 4 digits of the sort code.

Say you want to open an account by post and ask how you go about it, and see what they say.

I thought it wasn't possible to open an account with Clydesdale/Yorkshire bank by post? I phoned them before and they will not send a form out, they said you can only do it in a branch & my nearest branch is an hour drive away. :(

So during this extensive testing period no one flagged up issues with either Paypal or Amazon. That's extremely curious (not to mention extremely odd and statistically odd) given the large number of transactions carried out by each firm in the UK.

as savagej has suggests - use the disability discrimination route: tell them you feel that they are unlawful disability discriminating against you in that they have failed to comply with its duty as a service provider to make reasonable adjustments without justification.

(RBS lost a case last year to do with wheelchair access so you would have expected banks to have taken steps to ensure branch staff would be more accomodating or at least not have a blanket refusal to consider alternatives)

I am actually disabled but i don't feel right using it to get treated differently by a bank, but i may consider it. Is there any word from the Yorkshire Bank Rep on here about this subject? Is the Bank actually in breach of the law by refusing to open accounts by post? I'd be interested to hear thier defense as such.

They have to make 'reasonable adjustments' for people with disabilities. There's no set rules regarding what they can and cannot do. For example, they aren't obliged to offer accounts by post due to this legislation, however, if someone is unable to attend the bank, they would have to consider other options.

I would suggest that the Bank's Representative may wish to raise the issue with the relevant department to ensure that staff are trained properly with this legislation in mind, as outright refusals to help and not offering any attempt at alternatives or at least explanations (they could perhaps quote money laundering rules - but again that's doable via the post - look at the likes of Egg (bank) for example) could land them in trouble as it does look like they are failing to meet their obligation to make reasonable adjustments.
