...what oil to use for roasting if you have a veggie coming for Christmas dinner...
Just watching Jamie Oliver doing three lots of roast pots - one in goose fat, one in butter and one in olive oil - he said all three were different but the butter and goose seemed to have the scrunchiest outside and the olive oil were the lightest. He said they were all great but you can't taste on the telly.
Wonder why he didn't try doing them in LARD as was traditional - and cheapest - and no more unhealthy than goose fat or butter! (IE all three are very unhealthy but what the hell at christmas). We do ours in lard only at christmas and they are lovely. The rest of the year its sunflower oil or if virtuous fry light.0 -
I bought asda ex spec last week cos they where on special offer, but they where awful and some where hard in the middle, so I'm definately back to aunt Bessies, who never let me down!0
