No, you can go to any dealer. My car was through a broker and from over 100 miles away.0

No, I think it's an general VW offer, it was even in the brochure0 -

Block exemption does state that garages must be VAT registered, genuine or equivalent parts used (we only use genuine when a car is under warranty) and must be serviced in accordance with manufacturers instructions - its not rocket science...
I'm off to bed now - let you all fight it out!
May be of interest to some but I used to audit Ford garages on this a few years back and think that while 100% were VAT registered only 50% used all Gen parts and less than 30% serviced the cars in accordance to manufacturers instructions.
To elaborate on the last two points (the non gen items were nearly always supplier branded (not ford branded) parts that came off the same production line as the Ford parts but were a third cheaper. (acceptable now at independents but not at a main dealer)
With regard to the cars not being serviced to manufacturer regulations at the time each car had to be scanned on the computer by plate or chassis code to produce a service schedule for that car and ensure any recall updates or fixes were implemented. What was often done was a print off was done for a vehicle and then just photocopied and then photocopied again so the job was model specific (not vehicle specific).
This may not sound bad but I saw several examples of Focus being given the service that was meant for the Escort because the Escort sheet was the one still being photocopied.0 -

That is excellent advice. Everyone should be aware of what they are doing and more importantly where they are going and if genuine parts are used etc.
Every time we service a car under warranty I phone the appropriate manufacturer/dealership and find out what is due (I do this at least twice from different sources) and then I order in the appropriate parts and oil if need be - genuine of course, and that is probably why we are always busy, we always do the job properly and thoroughly. It is fine to use an independent BUT you do have to do your homework.
If dealerships offered good deals (and at last some of them are) and all of them did their job properly and not rip people off, then they would have the business and the customer would be happy too.
Meanwhile, if the Block Exemption is NOT renewed next year, then they have got you by the short and curlies and I guarantee that the prices will go up high again! And if diagnostic information is held back too........ might as well go out and buy a push bike! :rotfl:Genie

And....
They don't have this problem in Japan or the States where Block Exemption is in permanently.......... its just Europe really, and we have to do what we are told because we are sheep. Baa...Genie

Well, anyone buying a car and then moving house next day would be in the same position wouldnt they. The service deals and guarantees are with the company not the individual dealer.
The deals are with the company and not the dealer.. you say
Do you mean the deals are with the manufacturer? Because there are alot of 'dealers' with 'deals' at the moment that are not instigated by the manufacturer.Genie

That's where you ask the question is this a Franchise offer or Manufacturer sponsored.
On our Focus the servicing package was run by Arnold Clark, on the Civic it was Honda.
So one was transferable through a dealership chain and the other was transferable through a manufacturer chain.New PV club member. 3.99kW system. Solar Edge with 14 x 285W JA Solar panels. 55° West from south and 35° pitch.0
