Some people cannot be swayed away from the dealership stamp - have to live with that fact.Genie

Believe it or not, I do know that - which is why I said I do NOT understand why they price a brake fluid change separately as WE count is as part of the service - in other words, don't rip people off!
It would be good if you're my mechanic!0 -
That's not that bad for a main dealer, despite the response below.
However the main plus, if the block exemption rules end next year, servicing your car at a main dealer will ensure your warranty is still intact!!
IF it runs out next year........ but IF you have it serviced independently now, you will not affect your warranty. Its the law.
So go sign the petition! Or move to the State or Japan where you are free to go where you like unlike this dictatorship we are living in. Third world Britain!Genie

Could well be if you are in my neck of the woods! We are horrendously busy and trying not to complain about it....
our regulars have been coming to us for twenty years plus and we gain new customers daily - most have had bad experiences with dealerships - a shame, but our gain!! Genie

It is the law, not a 'good idea'. If the servicing is carried out correctly and a manufacturer tries to deny you warranty work, they are breaking the law. But if you prefer to pay dealership prices and get their stamp, then that is your decision, its your money, your choice.
Personally, I don't like paying over the odds whether I have the money or not and I do not like to be dictated too either. I believe in freedom of choice, which we are being denied in all areas of our lives in this so called 'free' country.Genie

theres been threads on here where someone goes into an indy looking to save a few quid, indy says yeah its all sorted
engine blows up and it then turns out that the indy skimped on non oem parts and the warranty goes out the window. Most people wouldnt know a genuine part from a cheapo jobbie0 -

Then they haven't done their research have they? You don't just go to any old garage. Word of mouth is good, check out forums etc. Their are idiots working in all sorts of garages, including dealerships.... I've suffered at the hands of both over the years. You can't damn all independents and you can't damn all dealerships - you have to use some common sense, do your research and do what is right for you and your purse.
I think the word 'choice' is what should come into it all here. Let people have the choice as to where they go. Rather than be dictated to and told where we have to go etc.
Block exemption does state that garages must be VAT registered, genuine or equivalent parts used (we only use genuine when a car is under warranty) and must be serviced in accordance with manufacturers instructions - its not rocket science...
Meanwhile - I still think it is outrageous to charge extra for a brake fluid change which should be part of the service, the only extra should be the cost of the brake fluid - a few pounds!
I'm off to bed now - let you all fight it out!Genie

thats just it, if my mum heard about block exemption for example and went into a garage and asked about it, she would have no idea if they were using the correct parts, human nature is to cut corners/margins
its happened on this very forum before, some poor bloke took it in to an indy, got his car serviced under the scheme, then when there was a problem he was screwed
just because your garage does it right, doesnt mean that everyone does, you often forget you are in the trade and have all the contacts that jo(anne) public doesnt have, in my eyes for the sake of saving 50 quid on a service most people will get the work done at the dealer, where they have more comeback when something goes wrongjeannieblue wrote: »

To answer your question phone up the garages and prices up what is being quoted individually ie 2 services, brake fliud change and an MOT£58.35(at last check)Hi all,
I was sent a letter this morning from my local VW dealer and they were offering 2 years service for my car for £299. It consists of 2 years service, 1 brake fluid service and one MOT. My car is a VW Golf 1.4 TSI '08 and my next car service is the 24th month.
So is it value for money or does it work out cheaper separately?
Thanks in advance
I would say it isn't bad. I always take a service package when we buy a new car. It always save money and hassle. Yes indies are good but my local dealers are not too bad. Also remember prices only ever go up so your future proofing your next 2 services+ an davoiding the VAT increase, a whole £7.50 in jan
