VW service £299 for 2 years
Hi all,
I was sent a letter this morning from my local VW dealer and they were offering 2 years service for my car for £299. It consists of 2 years service, 1 brake fluid service and one MOT. My car is a VW Golf 1.4 TSI '08 and my next car service is the 24th month.
So is it value for money or does it work out cheaper separately?
Thanks in advance

Sounds alot to me - VW parts are very reasonably priced. I can never understand why they price things like brake fluid change separately - its really just part of the service.
I bet we could virtually halve that price! Try for a local independent to do it for you.Genie

ive been offered on my 06' vauxhall zaifra £670 for 3 years servicing including brake fluid changes and MOTs, and 10% off any car parts.
its a proper vauxhall dealer...

That's not that bad for a main dealer, despite the response below.
Prices from a well respected cheap VAG independant (http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/service.htm)
10k or 30k Service £100
20k or 40k Service £150
Brake Fluid Change £36
MOT £54??
So £299 for all of those from a main dealer isn't bad.
If they find anything wrong though you're paying main dealer rates.
However the main plus, if the block exemption rules end next year, servicing your car at a main dealer will ensure your warranty is still intact!!jeannieblue wrote: »Sounds alot to me - VW parts are very reasonably priced. A brake check is usually part of the service, but a brake fluid change is a separate thing required every 2 years.0 -
I know a VW dealer will do a cambelt change on for £250 and still be making money!0

welit depends how much it would normally cost, i would not pay VW up front for anything, biggest bunch of sharks going0

I think it is good value for money.
One thing that should be taken into account is if your selling the car after 3 years then 3x VW stamps make it worth at least £300 more than 3 independent stamps so in that way it does pay for itself.
Also as your car will remain in warranty for the next 2 years there isnt too much concern regarding EXTRAs they may find as most should be under warranty. Personally would be amazed if they find anything. In my experience extras are always on cars outside the warranty period.
The third service alone would probably cost you £300 ish at a VW main dealer and while I appreciate there are lots of great independents about they are best used for cars that are either 3 years plus or that you plan on holding onto for a long time.0 -
Its amazing how much 5 litres of oil and a filter can cost plus an hours labour.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Thanks! I understand that independent garages are good, if you find a good one. However, I don't know any really, I usually just call up the local ones and find the cheapest. Main stealers usually charge a extortionate price for minor work but, in theory they should be putting in genuine parts and correct spec oil (VW 504.00). But does it seem reasonable?
I'm probably contradicting myself.0 -
I'd take it. I would however ask for that second MOT.
Evans Halshaw in Leeds offer a similar thing for £250 and business is what the car industry needs at the minute!0 -

Believe it or not, I do know that - which is why I said I do NOT understand why they price a brake fluid change separately as WE count is as part of the service - in other words, don't rip people off!Genie
