Why do tube drivers earn twice as much as bus drivers?

    Wouldn't a better comparison be to see what drivers of other major metro systems earn, in the context of that country's average salary?

    I do not have a view on whether it is right or wrong, just cannot se why two very similar (and I personally think driving a bus would be more stressful) have such a difference in pay rates. Could it be that there is no direct private sector competition to find a market rate?

    I don't understand it either; tube drivers don't even have to talk to passengers and argue with idiots over whether their bus tickets are valid or not. Bus drivers have to drive themselves, tube drivers don't even fully control the vehicle. If anything bus drivers shou;d get more

    you also have to stop at the red signals in the middle of the tunnel when there is congestion on the line
