OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 9th December

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 9th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS friends.
Christmas QOTD: 'Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.' ~ attributed to a 7-year-old named Bobby
Tru -That must have been really scary for your husband but glad he has been diagnosed now and can be treated.
hilstep -
Sorry the MS has been playing up and that you have been having a bad time, but really pleased to see you posting again.
nmlc - hope it all goes Ok for your dad hon
taplady - Good news on Janet, that is great
Lowesy - big
to you honey
Bitsy - his ranch is huge. And yes, he is a real manly man - a cowboy. Before he got ill he worked on the ranch with his ranch hands, rode bulls at rodeos and did all the cowboy stuff. He also breeds horses and sells their lineage all over the world!
redruby - Hope you get a definite date soon - though it will make for an interesting Christmas!
heavenleigh - Thank you honey! And you are NOT a bad mother, you went with your instincts and did what was best for him at the time. My sister didn't give her boys the MMR at all. You must not blame yourself. I hope your LO gets through it relatively easily.
tired mum - Don't worry, we haven't got the decorations up and I am still making a few cards for close friends. And have some parcels to send.
Zippy - A friend of mine who is looking for a permanent job has been with a temp agency for a few months now and is really enjoying it and it keeps her CV up to date so it might be good for giving you some breathing space?
Mummysaver - Hope the gas people sort it out soon for you and that you had a good time at the works Christmas dinner.
Hester - I am so sorry about your husbands job.. I can't believe age is more important than someone who can do the job and would work so hard for them.
Cranky - your cat story made me laugh - thank you
Bitsys' tale of the superglue was similar to a problem I had with crepe paper yesterday. I was wrapping an extra gift for Tris as last posting for America is tomorrow and I couldn't find anything that would keep it stuck down. Ended up using gold cord in the end. Sellotape and glue were useless and I just ended up with fingers the same colour as the paper.
I am eating a crust of HM bread for breakfast as it smelt so good. The WM is on again.. seems to be non stop. Managed to get Sudocrem all over a dark aubergine coloured sheet so no idea how to get that off. Will use a stain remover but it's greasy so not sure that will work.
Lunch will be cheese and cucumber sandwiches as they remind me of summer and this weather is so wet I could use the reminder; and dinner will be tuna and broccolli pasta bake. An old recipe that is easy to make and provides the two of us two meals. It's even nice cold.
I hope everyone has a good day today and that anyone feeling poorly feels better soon. With love and light and
for all.

Morning all,
It's another scorcher here. DGS really had a great time at his break up at the pool. Had a sausage sizzle & iceblock & goodies etc. Little present and treaty bag was handed out as well. We shopped afterwards and then came home so Ninny could take 2 panadol and put her feet up.
DH came home around 2pm. Nothing much to report. Just doing basics and keeping cool. It just drains your energy.
Bitsy Talking about superglue I accidently glued our dog's eyes together with the stuff. (don't ask) It was our first dog and a very long time ago. I thought it was his eye cream. The vet had to rip his eyes open. It was just awful.
HH I would take it further too. Doesn't sound fair.
Ruby Hope today is the day.
Tired Mum I sent off all my christmas cards today.
Hope you all have a great day. <hugs> to those poorly. ByeeeeeeeeeeeeeeDon't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

No you didn't...because mine arrived yesterday!Thank you. :kisses3: I also got one from the lovely Snowyowl, I miss her posts on the daily.
Thanks for the kind posts about MIL. She was discharged from hospital last night and as far as I can make out they are still planning to visit this weekend, so I'm running around like a mad thing trying to get things sorted so that I can create the illusion that we don't usually live in disorganised chaos.
Just to add to the fun ds2 has a project on 'Rivers and water' to do in place of homework this week. I don't know the first thing about rivers and could quite cheerfully choke the person who thought this was a good idea a couple of weeks before Christmas!
I can hear the boys wakening up now so better go and sort breakfast and the lunches. Have a good day everyone.

Morning folks.
Getting ready for another drive up to my course. I could have accommodation, but i would rather sleep in my own bed and watch my own TV etc.
Car and fuel is paid for so it's not too bad.
Scary bit today of putting the theory into practice.
Probs late night shopping tonight, and maybe it won't be raining.
Snow and - 20 forecast for our holiday destination. Bring it on...

While Shepherds watch their flocks by night
All seated on the ground
The angel of the Lord came down
And glory shone arond
"Fear not," said he for mighty dread
had seized their troubled mind
"Glad tidings of great joy I bring
To you and all man-kind" :xmassmile
Morning :hello:
In my calendar - a Christmas tree :snow_grin
I'm not really a huggy person, so to everyone feeling ill/guilty/angry/just-plain-rubbish, I offer you my pick-me-up - Bacardi & coke, and a big bag of Minstrels(extra helpings for Hester)
lol @ Haribo's chicklets :rotfl:
Still need to sort out Christmas Eve food. My brain seems to have shut down over the last couple of weeks - I can't get a list together, and it's only a buffet  I might get the decs down from the loft today, I'm hoping they'll put me in the mood and get me started. Apart from that, I'm just pottering about today. I bought the new Harry Potter film yesterday (Sainsbury's, £7) so I'll watch that later.Bulletproof0 -
Morning All
Hester - so sorry to hear about OH's job, hope he finds something else asap.
Another wet start here - will it ever end? Anyway hope the rain stops as off with OH to big town this morning for a couple or bits and pieces.
Apart from that its paperwork, ironing and housework. Will change menu plan tonight as might have lunch out so wont want a big dinner.
Need to write the list of the damaged garage items today that should be fun, also chase the builder to come out and give me a quote for the damaged worktops.
All exciting stuff eh, but at least will be treating myself to a lovely Mocha at Starbucks. Also just remembered need to pick up some fresh sage so can make my sausage rolls - ordered it from Tesco but they offered my Lemon Thyme instead
Have a good day.x0 -
Morning all
On Friday the agency phoned, telling hubby they had the perfect job for him, they gave him a list of required clothing, which fortunately he had, otherwise in his enthusiasm to work he would have spent money buying what was needed. He was told it was a minimum contract of 3 months, with a possibility of it becoming permanent if he went on ok. On Monday the facilities manager was out sick, one of the other caretakers mentioned that hubby was a lot older than the people usually provided by the agency, hubby worked hard as he does & enjoyed the day, Tuesday he went back & the facilities manager returned to work. She spoke to hubby briefly to say 'Keep up the good work' then phoned the agency to say he wasn't suitable & that the agency were to phone him at 5 after he'd left site to tell him not to return. So we are assuming it is because of his age as he hasn't been there long enough to be judged on any other criteria.
Anyway, very little OS going on here, I slept badly last night as my shoulder was painful, unfortunately I had to do a lot of heavy lifting yesterday at work & I'm paying for it now.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning. It's freezing here at the moment but dry at least.
Food shopping this morning then seeing a friend this afternoon. Her Mum has non Hodgkins Lymphoma and has already had 3 lots of chemo over the last 7 years, but it looks like it's come back in her neck. She had a biopsy yesterday so everyone's waiting for the results. Not nice for her or her family.
Lunch will be spicy lentil soup which I'll make some cheese scones to go with and dinner this evening is chicken & hidden vegcurry with rice.
HeavenLeigh Don't beat yourself up at all. You did what you thought was right at the time. I wasn't allowed to have any injections as a baby, as Mum & Dad had lost 3 children before me with very rare protein allergies. I apparently got whooping cough, mumps, measles, rubella the lot :rotfl: I am fine now (apparently) and have suffered no after effects. Don't google any more you'll only frighten yourself
it's easy to do but then, if you're like me, you'll spend the rest of the day fearing the worst!
Hugs to those who need one & Tru I don't drink but thanks for the minstrels
Have a good day all.
Edited to add: Hester That is so unfair! Does he have any come back at all? Hugs to you xx0 -
Morning all,
No rain here yet, although I am sure we will get some at one point today. Still nothing from mortgage, we phoned her last night, but no good, she said today at the earliest , tbh I dont think it will be before xmas now and I have packed most of my kitchen away, bever mind what will be and all that.
Aussie, you glued the dogs eye shut ?????? you are a wicked woman
Off to work today and its our Xmas meal out at lunchtime, so no huge amount of work for me, we are going to a really good local restaurant, so just a snack for me for tea, OH and dd have a quiche I found in the freezer, with new pots and sweetcorn.
Need to have a good tidy through, garden recycling is out, and I need to do a wash.
Hester, I hope you and the minder are ok this morning, chin up xxx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all
Another wet and dreary start to the day! It's my DS1 13th birthday today, I can't believe where the years go. He's opened pressies and cards and my neice and nephew are coming over after school to have some HM pizza and chips, ice-ream and birthday cake.
Dad's angio-gram went better than we could have dared hope, there's no major blockages so no surgery needed they are just going to treat him with more drugs to correct the problem, so they just need to get the dosage right.
Have just a half day at work today then I'm on my days off, yippee! WM died on Friday so have engineer coming out tomorrow, not sure if it can be fixed, it's been a complete waste of money - had one breakdown or another every 6 months or so with it, it's a good job I took out a service agreement when I bought it. I certainly won't be buying that brand of washing machine again when this one goes to WM heaven!
Had lovely chicken in white wine and cream sauce, with mash and veg last night which I had menu planned, but tonight as now have extra mouths to feed for DS1's birthday will need to sort something else out for me and OH.
Nothing OS to report.
Have to go now, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.

Morning, this is too early for a SAD person! Doing a little bit of lamp time, but have to leave at 8.25 for work. Only one lesson then home. Hopefully not too demanding.
I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment. I think I've had too much time doing stuff out of the house, but things need to be done. By now I had hoped to have my new cushion covers done and some clearing up done in the house. Never mind, maybe today. Not worth getting bothered about.
Had sis on the phone last night, PITA. Never mind.
Dinner is sitting in the fridge as MIL took us to the tapas restaurant early doors last night. Got to collect ds from school, so might get some things done today.
DH mailed to say he should have a tax return of £1300, some of that will go to pay off what is owing for tax that his company will be due, he's now employed, winding down the company from when he was a contractor. He's talking about buying me some winter sunshine with the rest.
