Sky Replacement Card

  • Hey "will-in-estroil" - what is the '02' number you used for Nollywood - their website is now showing an 0845 number (0845 880 8015)

You must be looking at the number listed for them in the phone numbers section on the Sky box and not the one on the website at http://www.nollywoodmovies.tv/info/contact

The number there is quite clearly shown as being 020 7856 1308

I presume the 0845 number that Sky lists is one that they own and take a revenue share kickback on.
  • No need to phone Nollywood at all, unless you do not possess a viewing card or you require a second subscription: all done by their website, e-mail and Paypoint!
    RIP independent MSE.

    the blue ones

i keep the catf om cause i have been watching cbs mostly and cant be arsed to keep taking it in and out

As the Blue cards are about to be killed off within the next month or two (or rather the encryption system will then be changed to one they do not have a program on board to understand) Sky is now sending out pop up messages saying you need to replace the old card even if you are watching an FTV channel that doesn't require the card to decrypt it. The message is generated simply by the fact that you have the card in the viewing slot and that it is an old Blue sky card that the firmware on the box knows is out to become redundant.

Your only solution is to take the card out of the box altogether and the message will then go away. But if you want to go on watching Fiver, FiveUSA, and Sky Three and possibly ITV1 (in some regions) and have correct regionalisation on BBC1, and ITV then you need to get hold of a new white Sky viewing card by one of the methods discussed elsewhere in this thread.
  • I've just received my replacement card after paying the £20 fee. It doesn't give me access to all the previous freesat channels though. For BBC2 I can only get Scotland and Northern Ireland, and there's no ITV 1, 2 or 3 or Channel 4. Possibly some other channels too, I'd have to check. I get a message "channel unavailable" if I key in the channel number, and on the listings page they just don't appear at all. If I put the old card back in the slot I can get all the usual channels. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is it a faulty card? Thank you!

Either its actually faulty or more likely its simply blank and was never formatted with the correct information to regionalise the channels for your postcode.

Call Sky customer services and complain. Be insistent you are right (the staff are all trained to try and fob off non revenue earning non subscribing customers) and ask to be put through to the technical support department.

They need to send you another card correctly formatted and they shouldn't need to wait for you to send this one back as this one will simply be shredded when it finally gets back to Sky.

Have you actually had the card activated?

Read the bumph that came with the card, it needs to be activated.

Only subscription cards need to be activated. Freesat cards should just work when they are inserted.

Sorry that is incorrect, I have still got the paperwork that came with my £20 card, it must be activated.

Surely you have learnt by now not to believe everything Sky tells you though?

The two cards I have dealt with have been replacement Freesat From Sky cards (finally extracted from Sky free of charge after numerous emails of complaint) and they both work to decode all the expected FTV channels and with the correct regionalisation on BBC1 and ITV1 without any "activation" being carried out.

I can't see why a new Freesat card you have had to pay for should be any different.

The cards that you have received were replacement cards, that you did not pay for, they are obviously pre-activated prior to delivery.

The " paid for " cards do not work until activated by Sky, I would not waste money ringing Sky if they worked on arrival, sadly they do not.

So, on this occasion, you are wrong I'm afraid.
