Sky Replacement Card
Comments
-
Hi
I was a sky monthly subscriber about 2yrs ago - was paying around 20pm. They came in and installed free dish and gave free box etc.
That was the past.
For the last 18months or so, I've just been using the box connected to the dish and it's been working fine with all the free to air channels and also all the freeview channels. I dont pay sky anything at all.
Will sky send me a new card if I call up and pay £20
Is there any way I can tell sky I was a PayOnce-Watchfree forever customer and getaway without paying the £20
Cheers

As an ex-subscriber, you won't be eligible for a free card.
Anyone can phone up and pay the £20 for a new card. The card itself only provides a few extra channels and regionalisation of BBC and ITV. Just pull your existing card out, see if you're happy with what's left and then decide whether you want to pay the £20.Dave. :wave:0 -
Further to my post #26:
- I subscribed to Nollywood Movies online. https://nwd.appletree.co.uk/new_sub.php I supplied the viewing card number of a Sky ex sub card I use now for the free to view channels and to regionalise my EPG. I also elected to pay by Paypoint.
- I received an e-mail attachment with a barcode, which I printed off and paid 2 months' (£11.98) subscription. The irritating onscreen messages to change my card disappeared and channel 329, Nollywood Movies, became viewable.
- I then telephoned Nollywood for a second subscription, which was half price. I explained that I wanted it for a second digibox I have upstairs, which had no card inserted. They initially referred me to Sky to get a viewing card first, which I knew was not the correct procedure, as they (Nollywood) needed to arrange the card.
- I received another e-mail attachment. Although it said to pay £11.98 Nollywood told me I only needed to make a Paypoint payment of £5.98. A day after making the payment I received a new, unactivated rviewing card.
- I telephoned Nollywood, who activated the card for my second digibox. Unfortunately, it did not initially regionalise the EPG or give me FIVE on channel 105. Got referred to Sky, then back to Nollywood, who then sorted it out: they had activated Nollywood but had not put the card details into the Sky (SSSL) database.
- This morning I received a replacement card for my original Nollywood subscription, replacing the old Sky ex sub card. This was self activating.
- The upshot: I have 2 of the new white viewing cards and have paid £17.96 in total, as opposed to £40, had I ordered 2 FSFS cards. The Nollywood Movies telephone number begins 02, so with the exception of one (needless) call to Sky I have not had to pay 0844 premium rates.
- In two months time I will not renew my Nollywood subscriptions and channel 329 will be turned off, leaving me with 2 FTV cards and a saving of 60%.

You shouldn't need the viewing card inserted to get any of those channels.
Do you have an old Blue sky viewing card or one of the new white ones?0 -

When I had the old blue card I received two distinct messages, depending on if I was watching a free to view (Sky 3, FIVE etc) or free to air regionalised channel (BBC1, ITV1, Channel 4). These messages seem to disappear once a new card has been ordered, if subscribing to a pay TV channel and, of course, if the card is pulled out.RIP independent MSE.

And what card exactly do you have in your Sky box now? The old Blue one or the new White one?
The problems you describe are often caused by software corruption in the Sky box after it has been left on for a few days. Try powering down for two minutes at the mains then turn it back on.
Failing that you could always force a reinstall of the firmware on your box by turning it off at the mains then turning it back on at the mains whilst already holding down the Backup key on the front of the Sky box and keep holding down the Backup key till you get a black and white screen with a message about waiting 10 minutes for the new firmware to downloaded on to the box (or something along those lines). Do not turn the box off during this period of time while the new firmware is downloading.0 -

I have 3 digiboxes, all of which now have the new white cards, two through Nollywood and one FSFS.
I received two distinct messages when I had the old blue cards: on FTV channels the onscreen message informed me that the viewing on that channel would end, which was correct. On the FTA but regionalised channels the message was simply that the card was due to expire, again correct.
As soon as I subscribed to Nollywood the messages disappeared, and as described I shortly received a new, white viewing card. Similarly, as soon as I ordered my free replacement FSFS card online, the messages disappeared.
I don't think there was any corruption in the box or with the old cards; in fact, these were timely reminders of what would eventually happen should the cards not be replaced, however irritatingthey might be. SSSL knew that I had taken action by subscribing to Nollywood and renewing my FSFS card, new cards were on their way to me and therefore stopped hassling me with onscreen messages.
Similar messages appeared the first time $ky replaced viewing cards. Of course, that that time it was more critical as Channel 4 and all regions of FIVE were encrypted. Nor was there anybody issuing FTV cards at that time (the BBC had stopped and Channel 4 had not yet started to) which led to all sorts of improvised ways of getting them...but that's another story!!!:DRIP independent MSE.

Hey "will-in-estroil" - what is the '02' number you used for Nollywood - their website is now showing an 0845 number (0845 880 8015)0
