  • Do you not have the Airmiles AMEX? i know you do not want another card but for just a single use (£10) you get a 1500 mile voucher (eventually) which can be added to other miles balances to get wherever. i think the only restriction is you need to book one night in accommodation but it seems thats already in your plan?
Sorry thought I'd already sent you a reply - I know this offer sounds attractive but my OH is dead against any more credit cards so I'm just looking for extra miles by buying food in Tesco. Good idea though.
    It's 5 o'clock somewhere!

But you aren't going to keep the card, just open it, spend £10 and then close it. And how does the OH get the final say in whether or not you apply for a credit card in your own name?

In any event I'm pleased to hear that its all worked out for you and I trust that you have actually booked those four seats as they definitely won't hang around for long.

P.S. I should have added that you must have been especially frustrated during your efforts to book by the totally stupid and quite unnecessary Air Miles restriction (introduced when the split with BA Miles as a superior scheme occurred) on booking one way flights..
Yes we have actually booked so thats settled. And yes I was frustrated by not being able to get one way flights, but not knowing it was ever any different I put up with the restriction. The last time we went to the US we used tesco vouchers with virgin (before their upper limit was introduced) and that had a lot of annoying rules as well. But if you are not paying actual cash I suppose we have to put up with it. Thanks for your helpful comments and best of luck with your own booking.

I don't think we should have to put up with it as flights are hard enough to find on the dates that you want anyway without an unnecessary restriction that you must come back from the same airport that you flew to.

When this rule was set a much larger proportion of holidaymakers travelled on charter flights who only sold the flights in one or two week return modules to the same airport. Now there are only a couple of charter companies left and nobody selling flights for cash charges you more per mile for a one way ticket than a return. Also when the rule was set BA was thinking of flogging off Air Miles to another company and only keeping BA Miles as its own mileage scheme.

Now Air Miles is firmly back within the BA fold and BA has no plans to sell it so I think the prohibition on one way flights and stopovers on flights to Australasia should be scrapped and Air Miles should also be offering a Round the World Ticket with say four or five stops for a reasonable number of Air Miles. I would specifically never use Air Miles to fly to Australia and New Zealand under their current rules due to the total inflexibility of an Air Miles ticket for this kind of trip.

Airmiles bought via clubcard vouchers are identical to normal airmiles and can be used in the same way. You could save up and convert more until you have enough for where you want to go?

It does when you read the whole thing (icluding small print)

    https://www.airmiles.co.uk/spend

    Depends what you want

Flights-there are zones - you pick a country you want to travel to and see which zone it is in - each zone has certain number of miles needed BUT that overview number is only if you fly from London. For flying from anywhere else you have to add 500 miles per person. I think that is why it is always coming up couple of extra thousands miles.

As for holiday packages - for those you have to call in. The operator will find the normal price from the travel operator and that gets priced up in miles - I think it is 1000=£50 or £60 (so not a good deal AT ALL). The only time package holiday is a good deal I think is when you get it through the "weekly deals" email-there are sometimes good deals, but you have to be very flexible - it's only for certain dates, certain places and you have to book it within the week the email is out.

Or you can book flight+hotel - again - not a good deal. Hotels are expensive and you can do much better with booking the hotel via Laterooms.com.

Flights themselves are good though - if you can get the place. No no frills airlines there - BA or Czech Airlines etc.. you know, some real airlines I wouldn't fly with normally because of the price.
