I know this thread is a bit old but didn't want to make a separate thread.
/snip/
Is there anything else i can do that could help me boost my virgin miles or tesco points as were hoping to have enough to upgrade one or both legs of our journey to premium economy and failing that keep collecting towards a holiday to hong kong in the future.
Head over to
flyertalk.com - there is a specialist forum on virgin atlantic and points earning/maximising them there as well as a number of other major brands.

Hi I'm going to Brazil next year for the World Cup. I know nothing about airmiles but was wondering if there was anything I could start or do now which could get me flights to Brazil next July.
Thanks for any help/advice0 -

Even if you were able to collect enough miles I think you'd find there will be no availability.:(
Airmiles IMHO are a con and total waste of time.
You can collect "proper" Airline reward miles (Avios etc) and to get large amounts quickly without flying you need to sign up to Credit cards, or primarily American Express CHARGE cards.
I still think that availability will be an issue with these.

To collect necessary amount of airmiles/Avios for flight to a country as far as Brazil and then hope there will be any availability is I think one of those dreams..
Even if you flew a lot for business, had avios credit cards and spent like mad on them to earn points fast and managed to collect the necessary amount of points, there is in my opinion no chance that there will be any available seats for such an important event!0 -
I can't believe what a rip off avios are, I've been converting my tesco points to avios and just checked how much it would cost me for a return flight for 2 people aberdeen - london, I've more than enough miles but they want £70 in taxes which is more than the cost of one return flight with easyjet for example.0

Thanks mrsT, I have always wondered about using my Tesco points to get avios, and have now decided not to do so. Just online shopping is the best way to get avios, I believe. I don't have many but I keep my account open with shopping online now and then. Maybe they will be used for something sometime in the distant future!0

I always shop through BA and convert my Tesco points into Avios.
I think its a great scheme.
I booked 2 business class return tickets to Cyprus for £200 each which is an absolute bargain
You do have to box clever though as some fares, especially within the UK and short haul sometimes dont work out cheaper but I can fly to Cyprus for £30 each if I go normal class.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know.
