How exactly does anyone manage to collect £920 of Clubcard vouchers in 30 months (after this they are expired and cannot be converted) unless they are running a restaurant or have a family of 10 or something.

Of course well done on getting the double Air Miles conversion rate.

Conversion to car hire is a ripoff and worth a mere fraction in cash terms of using the Air Miles on flights though.

If you contact Tesco Clubcard near the time of your vouchers expiry date they will re-issue your vouchers with a longer expiry date.

I have done this several times myself to enable me to collect my vouchers for longer.

    Hope this helps
If this has helped you please don't forget to click Thanks, thankyou.

We've been through this before, only 1 page back...
They are not expired. As long as you notice it on time Tesco will credit them back to your account..

Your problem was that you did not notice it on time and they were 24 mths expired when you rung them (post no 503).

Well they will only re-issue them for 6 months after their nominal expiry dates and as I discovered when converting them to Air Miles the original vouchers are actually still valid themselves during that six month grace period for redemption. But they are not valid once the six months after the expiry date are up.

But if you only collect a modest amount of vouchers like £20 per annum as I do and are saving towards say an Irish Ferries crossing then this does not overcome the basic problem because as fast as you have one voucher re-issued more are expiring again only 3 months later. And some of us have more things to do with our lives than manage piles of Tesco Clubcard vouchers.

The bottom line is that Tesco used to willingly re-issue all expired Clubcard vouchers (I had several years worth re-issued previously) and now they do not but they did not publicly announce this change in policy so naturally those of us who have £26 of Clubcard Vouchers we cannot now use due to this change of policy are understandably rather upset. Air Miles do not expire so why should Tesco Clubcard vouchers. Air Miles only require you to collect one more Air Mile per year to keep your account going. My view is that Tesco's rules ought to be precisely the same. Those of us who spend less (single person household) and accumulate vouchers more slowly still had to spend just as much money to do so and it does take a long time to save up say enough vouchers for a return ferry crossing on Irish ferries (usual cost at least £200 for a week long trip for a UK motorist plus passenger so = £50 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers).

I don't think it is asking much for Tesco to accumulate all the Points on to an electronic account like Air Miles do instead of still issuing vouchers (as Air Miles used to do) and for the Points to be directly redeemable off the electronic account either for spend in store or for any of the Clubcard deals promotions. It is a nonsense that for many of the Clubcard deals that your first have to get Clubcard vouchers changed in to yet another voucher before you can take up the deal. For instance people often decide to go to Legoland with the kids on one or two days notice and not in the period it takes to turn Clubcard Vouchers in to tokens that are then sent out in the post to use at the admission booths.

I repeat that Tesco's policy of expiring its vouchers after two years is not either acceptable or fair or reasonable.:mad:

As an accountant I can tell you that it is all of the things above. It's not good to have large liability sitting constantly on your accounts.

Instead of moaning about having a life repeatingly and not wanting to check your vouchers (all but 10 sec job) you can check your vouchers and make sure they don't expire.

    It's not that difficult...

And yes, again, Nectar has easier scheme where you just swipe your card, but maybe that is why their scheme is so rubbish - because of the set up and admin cost.

If you don't like, don't do it. I have no other advice then that. Frowning will leave age lines you know:-)

Fortunately ruthless and hard hearted accountants like yourself are not allowed to run companies single handed and your marketing and customer service people will tell you that it is very bad to stab your most loyal customers in the back for the sake of a tidy balance sheet.

The bottom line is that some of the Clubcard Deals like the ferry journeys to Ireland required a lot of Points to be accumulated and for a single person household this could not be achieved within the timeframe. If AirMiles had ever had a two year lifespan I would never have started collecting them to begin with as the opportunity to lose out from this unnecessary rule would have been obvious. Only banana republics try to suddenly render their whole currency worthless without giving everyone long and active notice of the need to convert to the new currency.

Tesco changed the rules of the game regarding replacing expired vouchers without notice and the two years expiry period was also unreasonably short. Expiry after five years might have been reasonable. Also despite your love of a tidy balance sheet any long experience of running a scheme of this kind will soon give a very steady rate of conversion and a steady percentage of wasted and lost vouchers all of which can be factored in on a balance sheet. If that was not true then both the Air Miles and BA Miles schemes would have gone down the tubes long ago.

Anyhow the scheme owner always holds all the strings by being able to change the redemption rate of the vouchers etc whenever they want as has recently happened with the less favourable rate of conversion of Clubcard vouchers for one off and annual tickets for Legoland.

A/ so far I know only of 1 customer who moans
B/ it's not about hard hearted accountants, but about banks lending criteria and shareholders

(c/ and there I thought that the whole of BA is fighting for survival... I need to learn to read better:-)))

Seriously mate, you are soooo grumpy!! Chin up!! It's not a big deal!

It is a big deal for me because I have been done out of £26 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers or 1248 Air Miles (at the double rate) that I would not have let fall by the wayside if I had know the rules of the game had been changed.

You just feel smug because being a dull, uncreative person good at boringly following rules and deadlines (AKA an accountant) you feel smug that it is no sweat for you to constantly have to try and avoid being caught out by such unreasonable rule changes.

What exactly gives you the right for your point of view to be the only one that counts?

    ??????????
What are you going on about? I (and others before) were just saying that the vouchers do not necesarily expire as you keep telling everyone..

And then you said that there is no point anyway because you've got a life. Not sure which one of us more boring one, you spending time moaning about everything and anything or me just because of my occupation. That was a bit under the belt mate.

Sorry for you to have lost on those £26. But that is not reason to misinform other people on here.

How am I misinforming anyone. The vouchers do keep expiring every two years and as fast as you extend one another one expires.

You may have nothing better to do than make long calls to Tesco to plead for them to be extended One by One. Other people do.

Why don't you join the Christmas savings scheme? You don't seem to be using the vouchers regularly anyway, so it wouldn't be an issue only having them sent out once a year instead. That way you'd only have to worry about vouchers expiring once a year.
When you ring up and join, then give them all the numbers of the vouchers you have sat at home and ask them to add them to your balance (no need to wait for them to expire) you can then chuck them all away (after checking your balance of course) and you'll then receive just one or two vouchers in november, at a much higher value, maybe £35 or £40 for each voucher, instead of having to keep track on numerous £2 or £3 vouchers. Just a thought...
And if you did decide that you didn't want to wait til November, you could just ring them up and they would send you the whole balance with a fresh 2 year expiry date with your next club card statement.
I don't think I can hang on til Friday...
