Ok, NonGeographicalMan, so you have all those airmiles and you haven't added any more for two years, then don't you mind about having them taken from you when the cut-off time comes? I've only got 2,981 of them and I'm quite miffed that I will lose them because I have not collected airmiles for years. I'm going to convert one of my Tesco vouchers into airmiles and spend the other voucher in the store. Best of both worlds.0

Of course I mind and that is why I have just changed my Shell Drivers Club card back to Air Miles instead of a further cashback of 0.5% on my Shell Citi Mastercard. I am also meaning to spend £10 on my Lloyds Amex card at a petrol station some time soon just to make sure. I might also convert my oldest £2.50 Tesco Clubcard voucher that I was saving towards Clubcard deals to make triple sure (as they convert quicker than the Shell or Lloyds Amex collected Air Miles).
But the point is that I bitterly resent doing any of the above because I still regard Air Miles as a gigantic con and I will try to get rid of the whole damn lot as soon as possible by taking a few flights and then having nothing more to do with their whole sad, sorry and tawdry little scheme.0 -
Ok then, NGM, I now see what you mean! You are strongly against them, I see that! Still, using them up will take some planning if you only want what we want - a flight from your local airport, and not have to go to London! I know, the 500 airmiles rule (penalty), so it's better to do that than to lose all of them, I suppose, and get a flight from the local airport.0

Hi all, hope you dont mind me jumping in...
Im reasonably new to airmiles and have a quick question...
I signed up to the Lloyds TSB Duo credit card and in doing so recieved 1500miles. I saw that they are offering 200miles for people that you recommend to the Duo CC and who are successful in opening an account.
So i was therefore wandering if i could recommend my wife so she could get the 1500miles added to our 'household' airmiles account and i would also get 200miles added to the account?
Many Thanks.
I was going to apply for the lloyds card for the bonus 1500 airmiles but airmiles told me this had to be spent on 1 flight and not added to your airmile balance to spend as you choose?Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
That's right - 1500 towards a flight if you also book a hotel at the same time.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

Ecky Thump - have you thought of just using your airmiles for a hotel booking somewhere, instead of flights? There are some nice 4 star hotels all around the country for about 1700 miles - so maybe use them when you're on a trip somewhere. Or book the flight from Bristol and use them for a hotel abroad maybe?0

That is why I say don't collect Air Miles but instead opt for hard cash back every time. Cash is flexible but Air Miles are not and are a con. If you think you get them for free then you are unfortunately sadly misinformed.
I agree with you ruthiejane, it works for some of us. I love my airmiles and don't think 4 flights to NYC is to be sniffed at, tbh. I don't think it's as straightforward as saying "don't collect airmiles". You're also paying more for Shell fuel than fuel at Tesco and you'd be earning clubcard points on your fuel at Tesco, as well.
I would say airmiles trips need planning in advance, more so than just buying a flight a few months before, but as long as you're aware of this, you can get the flight you want on the day you want quite easily.0 -

Yes. I have had that in mind, but have never checked it out. We have always chosen a chalet in Cornwall, or a self catering appartment abroad, and booked at the last minute due to commitments here. Time is running out now, before they close my airmiles account.
Reading NonGeographicalMan's point of view about them being a con is a put-off but, however, I have converted a Tesco voucher to airmiles to keep the account live and kicking! One day we might have the time to book in advance, like everyone else has to do with airmiles. Just how long is needed to be sure of your booking?
As for boosting our airmiles I now know I do not have to own a Lloyds duo CC! I can spend online via the airmiles website and automatically have them added to my account! I am still amazed as to why I did not realise this before ruthiejane posted on 5 June to tell me about it!0 -
Please also be aware that if you have an old style Tesco Credit Card (issued pre-2006) you will actually collect more airmiles by using this card than the new TSB Amex Airmiles Card.
With the old style Tesco Credit Card they give you 1 clubcard point for every £2 you spend out of Tesco rather than the 1 clubcard point for the £4 they give you now. So for every £1,000 you spend you earn 500 clubcard points which equates to £5 in clubcard vouchers, which equals 120 airmiles (or 160 if you are on the accelerated rate of 80 miles per £2.50 voucher like me). For £1,000 spent on the Lloyds TSB Airmiles Amex Card you would receive 100 airmiles.0 -
I haven't read all of this thread so I may be stating something that someone else has already said, but for those who don't want to fly or lose their airmiles why not use them for cases of wine? A mixed case of 12 btls of red and white is currently 1000 miles incl. delivery. Listed in the "Activities" section of the website. It's 5 o'clock somewhere!0
