Hi all, hope you dont mind me jumping in...

Im reasonably new to airmiles and have a quick question...

I signed up to the Lloyds TSB Duo credit card and in doing so recieved 1500miles. I saw that they are offering 200miles for people that you recommend to the Duo CC and who are successful in opening an account.

So i was therefore wandering if i could recommend my wife so she could get the 1500miles added to our 'household' airmiles account and i would also get 200miles added to the account?

Can someone please tell me how the airmiles are collected on the TSB Amex Credit Card. When they say you earn 1 airmile for each £10 you spend, do they add up how much you have spent all together in a month and then divide that amount by 10 or do they do it on each individual transaction you make on the card? So, for example, if you made a purchase of something costing £9.99 you would in fact get no airmiles at all as this is below £10?

I was wondering the exact same thing!

I always buy £30 worth of fuel as, unless the prices go up even further, I can't fit £40 in my tank unless it's well into the reserve tank. Good question.

They add up how much you have spent in total (all transactions added together) for the full month up to the cut off day for your statement. If you have between £30 and £39.99 on the statement you will receive 3 airmiles.

Oh? I have always thought I would have to have the Lloyds Duo Credit Card for any transaction to earn airmiles. You say not. Why didn't I see it was that way? I must be having a very long senior moment then! Until Now! Cheers for putting me in the picture! I'll do something about it tomorrow. I've just received some Tesco money-off vouchers which I always used against my total shopping bill, but if they can be made into airmiles then I will get it done.

What I know is that to collect Air Miles you give up genuine hard cash in your bank account which you could instead use to buy any flight you want and not just the flight on a Wednesday afternoon in early March that Air Miles has available.

For instance to collect 60 Air Miles you exchange £2.50 of Tesco Clubcard vouchers that you could have used for groceries or for items from Tesco Clubcard Deals at four times that face value. Or you give up 1% cashback at all normal retailers and 3% cashback at Shell petrol stations by using a Lloyds Amex card with no cashback instead of a Shell Citi Mastercard with the aforementioned cashback. Or by using the https://www.airmiles.co.uk website to do your online shopping you give up cashback of up to 5% you could have instead on the same goods if using the https://www.topcashback.co.uk website.

AirMiles are very hard to convert to flights on the days most people want to go and now to cap it all I have collected 10,000 of them over 18 years and now Air Miles thinks they can wipe them out just because I have not collected any more of them for the last two years.

That is why I say don't collect Air Miles but instead opt for hard cash back every time. Cash is flexible but Air Miles are not and are a con. If you think you get them for free then you are unfortunately sadly misinformed.

Fair enough geographical man - but I'll choose to continue to use airmiles. I understand why you choose not to.
