My experience from a BT line is that you are NOT charged unless the call is answered using any of these indirect companies: 18185, 1899 or 18866

    My experience too.

    My apologies! You are right.

For some reason - possibly due to experiences with some other service in the past - I thought that to be the case; but I have just checked a recent entry on my account when I remember the number being engaged at my first attempt, and there is only one charge for when I got through half an hour later.
Thanks very much for the correction, Garetha!

The other good news is that - as others have reported - 18185 have credited my account with the incorrect charges on Tuesday.

  • I see so many people using 18185 / 18866 services after reading this entire thread.

I looked at the 18185 / 18866 services' website and during registration they seem to be asking the Debit / Credit Card details.

Are they a safe company to provide the card details ?
Have any body faced any problem with them before ?

I just read the previous comment.. that the 18185 had credited back the extra charges that they charged for the 0p calls. I'd tend to think they are safe. But I just wanted to get everyone's experience.

I've never had a problem with them. I do use direct debit to pay as opposed to a debit/credit card - better if there is a problem.

We use Direct Debit too. No problems at all.

No problems at all, but as jem16 says, the advice with any continuing payment is NEVER to use Debit or Credit cards, but ALWAYS use your bank's Direct Debit authority which has certain guarantees and is the only method you can be certain of cancelling if you do have a problem.
