A proper email or just that form on the website Jem? (The one I mentioned in my earlier post #15 I think). If it was a proper email can you let me have the addy please.

It was their webform - I couldn't find any proper email address. It took me long enough to find even the webform!
  • At this time a local call is being quoted at 1p/min although the web site says 0p/min.
    A local call today at 12:26 was 45p for 3min 21secs.

    1899's charges are 1p via the gateway numbers (0808 1 708 708 & 020 8180 4804), 0p via the 1899 prefix.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I received a reply to my request for a refund.

    Dear Customer,

We experienced a problem with calls to numbers in the UK for several hours today. The tariff message and charge of 10p per minute was not the correct one and you should not have been charged this rate. We will refund all calls that have been charged this tariff. We ask that you please be patient however, as this may take a few days. We are very sorry for this, and would like to apologize for any inconvenience you may have been caused.

    Kindest Regards,
    Customer services.

Well, they've refunded 10p on each of the two calls where the 10ppm message came up, but considering the phone didn't even ring the other end, as I terminated the call as soon as I heard the message, I fail to understand how I've still been charged 5p for each call. I didn't think the connection charge of 5p was made until the call was actually answered. Probably not worth pursueing for 10p though!

I think you are charged the 5p as soon as you connect to 18185. It's the one disadvantage of these services - being charged if the number is engaged. However, the overall saving is well worthwhile!

My experience from a BT line is that you are NOT charged unless the call is answered using any of these indirect companies: 18185, 1899 or 18866
