Oh and I do apologise as I can't find the post now - but someone suggested seeing if she had a receipt from a time when she added to the card, but unfortunately she hasn't.

just a thought but if your mum has not got a reciept did she pay for any of her shops with a credit card etc maybe they could trace the evidencce of a top up on her gift card through that just like when you can return something you can chase it through credit card statement and transaaction numbers

Thanks Daphne - I knew I had seen that on here somewhere.
Glodh1973, my Mam doesn't have a credit card, flat refuses to have one. Think she is scared of getting into debt.
She is rather old fashioned in that she prefers to withdraw her cash and use cash for all purchases so she can keep on top of her spending and stay within her limits.
I have emailed, but I think it would be more fair if we gave him a couple of days to respond first anyway as my email was a lengthy one....
