I am very honoured that you think I am nice.

I am sure you have the wrong person ;)

I like to be harsh but in a nice way if you get my meaning. And as I am not really nasty in real life just a real big softie so sort of makes it hard to be nasty in a really horrible way.

As has been said some people do need a virtual kick up the bum. As they feel they are doing the best. And yes I suppose in a way we are judging people. You have to when all they give you is a SOA and not much other info.

So why people do go on about having Sky. I mean I don't have a telly. But a free view box for £30 means you are saving X amount from sky per month.

I do hope you stay I think you will find that we 99% of us are nice.

    Take care.

    Yours

    Calley

I think what Mrs D has said in this thread has been taken totally wrong, it can be hard to agree and/or disagree with everyone on here and there are ALOT of different opinions on every subject.
At the end of the day people have different priorities and going to the world cup or splashing out on an expensive meal even though you are in debt would be just like going to london fashion week if you are a big fashion follower or going to see your favourite musician on a one-off tour or something. I just spent £43 on a ticket to see Guns N Roses, I can't really afford but its a once in a lifetime chance for me especially since i missed my chance before.
It isn't right to criticise someone for wanting to do something that they might regret later on, people should be giving advice not saying do this or don't do that.
We're all here to give and take advice and thats what people should stick to, if you feel like you can you make a personal comment then it shouldn't be done on a public forum where people can take it wrong.
I hope that you find lots of advice on here Mrs D like your OH has and as said before - just ignore anything else, its the best way to go.
    Good luck xxx

On a forum like this there are all sorts of views, all of them are valid and if you don't agree with someone's advice don't follow it.

This is a place for mutual support for people battling against debt, some of us are harsher with ourselves than others are, it all depends on our life experiences. Some people do need a swift kick up the rear but they have to spot the lightbulb first and it's easy to keep on spending, or smoking or eating the wrong food.

Sometimes the person being harsh is trying to stop the new DFW from getting into a bigger mess but only they can choose what if any advice they take....

You're right, I was given tickets to see David Gilmour a few weeks ago. Last time I saw him was when I worked on Knebworth festival back in the 80s, he is another hero of mine and who knows if he will ever tour again, he is 60!

We had to take a night off work, pay for petrol and drinks etc, cost us £30 or so, which is a huge amount to us. But once in a blue moon you just have to do these things for the really important can't miss events.

It still represents a significant amount that could be paid off to each person's debt situation.

Just because we are in debt, sometimes it isnt our 'fault' we all try so hard and you have to have some treats and nice things... otherwise whats the point in carrying on ! It isnt a prison sentance to be in debt.

Some interesting comments here!! I think its important to remember that this is a community - ie made up of lots of different people, different opinions, experiences, goals, philisophies, education, salaries, debts, jobs etc... and will therefore differ hugely in what we think/say/feel! I will pick & choose what advice I take...for instance I am the proud owner of cable TV (& not of the freeview variety) and while in debt feel that this is something I was not prepared to sacrifice while I could afford to have it & pay off my debts - I may get there more slowly but I will get there! If others see that as wrong then fine, we'll just agree to disagree! We all have our own decisions to make & I think some people CAN take it a bit far, especially when they dont know individual circumstances & sometimes even more so when they do but then that is life in general isnt it!! While its great that people get so much advice on here its also important to respect the decisions that people make...ie giving advice freely rather than with expectation! We are all different and this is to be celebrated..I think Mrs D you need to remember; we're individual debt free wannabees and we're human - just like you!!

I may or may not be human, haven't got the results back from the lab......

We all have our own way of doing things, I've got some great ideas from people here that I just would not have considered, and hopefully vice versa.

Some people however do seem to come on here just to fan the flames, you just ignore them. I like the way that some people give their advice fairly directly, some people respond more to that approach than all the softly softly in the world.
This year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
