How old/what size did your DD start wearing a bra

Hi all,

just wondering whether I should go on my DDs age or physical size before getting her measured for a bra. I don't want to do it too early and give her a complex, but if she needs it I want her to have it....I suppose the answer to this is to take her and get her measured and go from there, but that means my baby is becoming a young lady lol!

I think my first bra was a c cup... :eek: My mum never took me to buy them - I went myself, but then I was a very mature kid (who btw developed way before all my peers in that department...)
I would ask her if she wants you to come with her - personally I would have rather died at that age than have my mum with me to buy my first bra!

after much nagging, my mum agreed to take me to get measured after 6months of those little crop tops, and I was a 32AA and 11 years old, within two weeks a 32A, and another month later a 34C, 36D at 16, and now a 36E at 26 (hopefully stopped growing now!)

I think it was when I was about to start senior school at age 11.

i never got fitted untill i was 19 - when i started learning to be a bra fitter and got fitted by another lady there. My mother was good at sizing and i wasnt very big so mum got me the right size throughout my teens. Even my first bra, which i had one christmas that was in my christmas stocking. I was mortified.

I would say to get your daughter fitted when the time comes physically.

I got my first bra at age 10 and it was a B cup. I was devastated when my mum said she thought I needed one. I hated the damn thing as no-one else in my class had to wear one, and it completely put me off PE as we had to all get changed together and shower in communal showers and the teacher would stand there making sure we got in. I just used to make any excuse, forget my kit and never do it.

I think it depends on both age and need. eg I had a need before I was old enough, but some may want a bra as their friends have one but only be an AA cup or less. Go on your DD and how she feels. Maybe broach the subject with her and see where it goes from there.

I was 10, the size was 28aa and it was a pack of 2 which were a Christmas present from my Aunty (I'd asked for them!) ~ I was over the moon LOL

My daughter was 10 too and her first size was a 30aa, now she is a 34A and will be 12 in 3 weeks.

I hope to God she doesn't end up with mahoosive bazookas, like me, my Mum and my Nan!



ETA ~ You can get some really pretty bras in New Look (white with rainbow trim, or tatty teddy ones etc).

Daughter has plain white for school (from Matalan) and the patterned ones (New Look) for the rest of the time.

I was an early developer and was wearing bras aged 9! Take her somewhere like M&S, usually nice friendly old ladies who measure.

I got my first bra just before I turned 9 and I was a 28 B and didnt stop growing and was a 32 D when left secondary school and am now a 36 E and hopefully stopped growing age 27 !!
I was the only one in primary school with one, but vest tops were too tight, or too baggy if you got the bigger size, so I didnt really have much choice.
I asked my mum as me and her were quite close, so there was no issue with it, but if your DD is embarrassed easily, I would broach the subject lightly or she may become very conscious of her new figure

I too was an early developed (am now a 34GG) and my mum didn't take me for a bra fitting, I wore cropped tops for way too long then she gave me her old bras that did not fit at all. My mum is a fantastic mum but I think money was very tight at the time. I would say have a chat with your DD ask as if she wants to go and try a few. See if she feels comfortable with the idea and go from there. I know if I ever have a daughter I will make it a special occasion as I wish it had been for me.

I used to get my mums casts offs as well.
My first first bras's though, you know the 2 triangle kind, I think I must have been about 9 and one little tip - do NOT get your young daughters a bra for christmas, cos it is just TOOOOOOO embarrasing!
For my daughter it'll be when she asks for one probably. Untill then i think crop tops are fine.
