  • i was desperate for a bra as i was the last one in my class to get one. I don't think I can have needed one for support - I still don't!

I was SO embarrassed asking my mum to get one - she told me i didn't need one yet but i think that was more to do with not wanting me to grow up :)

Hooray for John Lewis! I didn't get measured - just tried on the likely starter sizes and got the one that fitted best, a method i still have to use as i am so small the bra has to mould to me rather than the other way round, lol.
    My name is Paula and I am a low carber :kiss: 1/6/08-83kg : 1/5/10-57kg :kiss: (Atkins/IPD) 24/1/13 - 69kg! Yikes!:cry::cry:
  • I got proper miffed about this last week shopping!

Getting DD1 (age 6) some new socks, and picked up some pretty vests, She pointed to the teeny bra's and said, " can I have one mum!"
me "erm... no! Why do you want one?)
"well lots of people in school have them (rattles of 4 names), please mum"

I explained they are for when you start to turn into a grown up girl (she asked about why mummy has "nappies" in the bathroom last month!) etc etc and hopefully its left at that but grrrrrrrrrrr

Who buys a 6 year old a bra!!!

Think I was about 8/9 when I had my first crop top, and about 12 for my first "proper" bra!!!

Has gone to play on her own little world for a bit..... but its ok the voices in her head came too so she's not alone ;)
  • I was about 10 when I got a croptop, wore them until I was about 13 then started wearing bras.

Kids today (I hate saying that, I'm only 24!) seem not to realise that bras are for support, not for decoration!
Foreign politicians often zing stereotypical tunes, mayday, mayday, Venezuela, neck

I hated bras, mainly because i was the only one wearing one, think it was aged 10 and i was about a 36D  so needed it. Nowadays seems to be the fashionable thing to wear a bra mind

Don't think it's a fashionable thing. My girls wanted them, I'd seen that they should have them so we went shopping.

Ok so my dd2 doesn't have much to put in one but if it makes her confident and she's happy then so be it.
  • I have just bought DD1 her first bra, a 28A, couldn't find anything smaller :D. Though I can't remember wearing anything that small!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is in year 6 and it is all the rage to wear something, be it bra or crop top, and I think if DD was truthful she finds the crop top ones (from M & S) more comfy and easier to wear.

Thank you all for your replies.
The situation we're in is that DD is only 7, but she is quite a big build (wearing age 10 clothes) and even the bigger crop tops that she has chaff her under the arms. I don't really want to be buying her 'proper bras' at such a young age, but if she needs them she needs them.
So I need to a measure her to see if she needs them and also to find shops that sell a wider range of crop tops. I need to take her shopping for some clothes over christmas so will try and do that at the same time.
    Thanks for all your help

  • How about a vest top with an extra layer at the top, primark do them and would support a little or if you could find some to fit how about the vests with a shelf? sounds weird but is basically the same but with a bit more room and usually elastic for a bit of extra support.

Sometimes I look at my dd and think she could do with a bra but I'm going to hold off for a little while longer yet.

When she becomes embarassed or uncormfortable then we're off bra shopping :D (she comes with me bra shopping at the mo and hunts out the right ones for me, usually announcing to the shop she's found one in my size!:o
:hello: Hiya, I'm single mom, avid moneysaver and freecycler, sometimes  but definatly :D

I think it probably makes them feel more "grown up" so to speak, though i didn't at the age! Both my younger sisters ahve worn bras since about being 11ish.

Lol can't beleieve i used to moan about it back then..trying to find a bra in my current size (42F) is a nightmare compared to the choice of bras in a D cup! :p

  • My eldest girls were encouraged to from beginning of high school at 11.

10yo has already mentioned it, but i'm not wanting to go ahead with it for her until she hits high school in September 2010.....or am I being unreasonable?

Luckily I have new partner who is a bit more help with female things than myself, although I have tried over the past few years. It's not quite the same asking your Dad though, even though we are open on everything. It's a bit of a godsend having an adult female helping me, though 16yo is very helpful to her younger siblings.
