We got told the same thing about taxis. Luckily, I can get a lift to work and I am on a later shift. I think staff morale would be higher if people weren't so rude during sale, some people are unbelivably rude for no reason at all during sale. I am quite happy with the company and I do have a lovely manager which helps a lot.

No taxis = greater profit = greater bonus for staff.

Boxing Day = May Bank holiday or August Bank Holiday = open store = profit.

Boxing day = more customers who can visit the store (as 27th is a normal working day for many & some cannot make the sale therefore) = better for customers.

Taxis for staff on 26th = a perk that no other company would offer.

I think some people would do well to remember there is a recession on out there, and if cutting out freebies and making staff come in for 1 extra day a year (for which they'll get time in lieu) will safeguard their jobs for several years pls potentially give a bonus, then I think it's a small price to pay.

    VIP - 22nd PM

How much of the profits makes it way 'down-chain' to the staff? I think directors etc will probably get a bigger chunk.

Thanks for the VIP date :j
  • Well i wont be going to the stores on boxing day, I have a life. And christmas shouldnt be about getting up early and dashing round the shops on boxing day. The day after fine, but boxing day no. I will do my next shopping online with the vip pass i have got.
  • What is this taxi thing all about? Is it for head office staff or selected stores? Never heard of it in our area.
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!
  • Thanx for the vip date kiddy guy...when are the invites going out????
  • I have been a customer of theirs for about 8 years and always used to get the VIP email. But in the last 2/3 years Ive had nothing??? I spend on there every few months and have a £400 balance on there which gets paid off monthly so why dont I qualify any more?

Note to self: get that balance paid off asap in the new year............................... :-)
    :heart2::heart2::heart2: I LOVE MY BEAGLE! :heart2::heart2::heart2:
  • I just called Next customer services - the lady I spoke to said that email or postal slots would already have gone out by now - so if that's the case - I'm guessing none of us have got a VIP slot! Somehow I don't believe her .....

 i think she is telling porkies, as the slots usually go out 3 days before the first vip slot! So if the slots start at 6pm wed 22nd, then the invites should be going out on sunday. But just to be safe im gona keep checking my account every few hours from today. Dont see why she had to lie though. If i find the slots are out i will post here asap!!

27th is a public holiday (the Boxing Day public holiday to be exact)

The company will not make near to what it generally makes on a first day of sale purely because of transport and it being Boxing Day

The Christmas full price sales will more than match any bonus from Sale Day
Taxis for staff on 26th = a perk that no other company would offer.

That's rubbish. M&S do it for early starts as does BHS for sales. I've worked in the company since it was Hepworths and we've always provided staff with taxis' for the 5am starts, how do they expect anyone to get in when there's no transport? You can't contract someone to work a sale day if there's no transport and you can't rely on the off chance that enough staff have a car

Maybe at Head Office you are getting a day but the store teams are not getting any time off at all. No time in lieu at all. Yes there's a recession but Next are doing rather well and sit on strong sales and share prices.

Most stores run on part timers and temps with a core full time team. Unless they are Merit Sales they are on minimum wage. The cost of a taxi on Boxing Day, considering the lack of transport in most areas, will outweigh the pay in a 4 hour shift for most since most of them are being limited to this to keep costs down.

Added to that the temporary staff, of which they make up the bulk of the company at Christmas don't get bonuses as they don't qualify

It may be all sweetness and roses at Enderby Head Office but I've personally lost 14 good members of staff over the way this has been handled.

A company wide memo to stores saying 'come in or we'll sack you'

    Marvellous
