Gosh that must be awful for you conradmum. Thanks for your support. I was talking to my sister last night and the prospect of ds still be infectious, and her opinion was "well if parents don't immunise their kids that's their fault".

I don't think - no I KNOW I wouldn't be able to live with myself if we took measles up there and a little one caught it. Especially if they got it really bad. It's nota matter of whether they've been immunised or not as some of the really littlies won't have had chance to be immunised because of their age. She was like " yeah but we've all had it (my sisters and me) and we're OK. Just keep him away from the others"

OK so I'll buy him a bell to put round his neck shall I? Don't think so.

    Annie.....

Just a little note to pass on my good wishes for a speedy recovery for your little one. I do so hope everything gos well.

My friend looked around the internet when her youngest contracted measles, but as you have found everyone seems to have different opinions on the times :(

How sad that you're going to miss your sisters big day, I know how unhappy I would be if I had missed my own sisters. Perhaps your family could do something special on that day at home so its not "just another day"

Wishing you and your little one all the best

    Thanks Sallys savings,
I've told my daughter we can still make up the party bags with all the goodies I've got and give some to her teachers as a big thank you for being lovely to her. She's very diappointed too.

Hi AnnieH I hope your little one gets better soon. Iv'e got a 3yr old at nursery and although she has had her MMR I still worry as it's definately on the increase. Part of the reason for this is supposed to be that a lot of the people who opted for 3 seperate jabs never actually finished the course and got all 3 so the kids aren't fully immunised.

I was reading on the BBC news the other day about one of the doctors who started all of this, he's up for review with the BMA and might be struck off. I think he should have struck off years ago, apparently he was being paid by different companies to research the effects of the MMR. The other doctor has already said that it's safer to give it than to take the risk not to give it.

I have always felt that it's better to give it than to take the chance and hopefully if they did get anything like you said the effects wouldn't be as bad, but how must the people be feeling now that took the decision not to vaccinate that it's now on the increase. I think before these medical reports are published they should have to provide hard evidence to back it up, look at the damage this report has caused.

I had the full works of infections as a child. I am now almost 60 with a very good immune system, which was built up the natural way and I am not on any medication. Part of the problem today is that many mums do not know how to nurse their children in the old way and also pressures of work etc

We used to be sent to mumps parties

AnnieH, I hope you have been told to draw the curtains and keep the room darkened. I remember my mum nursing all 7 of us through measles and we all recovered with no ill effects. Try not to worry too much

Funnily enough Kittie, I wasn't told that by the doctor, but by my mum who has nursed my sisters and me through measles. Thank you for your reply.

Cor what's the most unpopular you've ever felt?

Just tried to explain to my mum about my sister's wedding and gosh I've upset everyone, my sister's really cross with me apparently.

But what can I do? My mum says "yes but he'll be better by then" - I'm trying to explain that he'll probably still be infectious even if he's better.

Hi Annie, just checked in to see how your little one is doing, been reading through the posts regarding your sisters wedding. I feel for you, having to miss out on her big day, naturally they are upset too, but its unfair of them to make you feel guilty. Like you say theres gonna be at least one baby there, not yet vaccinated, this baby doesnt deserve to be put at risk, you could be responsible for causing an outbreak of measles in a town 200 miles away from home, this would make you feel terrible. I hope your family, once they have time to think about it, realise your staying away for the sake of other children, and not just being selfish, after all, your the one missing out on the chance to get dressed up and celebrate with your family.. Hope they can understand why your doing it.
    Good luck with them.
    Sue xx
