Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Monday 7th December. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Christmas QOTD: Remember, This December, That love weighs more than gold!
~Josephine Dodge Daskam Bacon
Zippy - I know I said it yesterday but that was a fab start to the threadthankyou.gif
Salopman - Have a good christmas too and come back to us when life is less hectic! Halight posted with us a few days ago but he was coming down with a stinky cold at the time.
Heavenleigh - You really must try Freecycle - you could probably get a bread maker from there, it's where I got mine a year ago.
Sunnyday - our cat likes to walk under the tree with her tail bolt upright so she knocks the maximum amount of baubles off for her to then chase all over the floor.
Bitsy - hope your son feels better soon hon
Tru - doesn't matter how glam your hubbys ex is, he married YOU and he was lucky to get you! Maybe at the meal you could just pick at a few bits and if necessary, get your hubby to eat some of yours or hide it in napkins in your handbag? Not nice I know but it seems a shame to suffer all night.
Gers - what a lovely post! Thank you for dropping in on us and I hope you will post again.
redruby - hope you hear about the move today, fingers crossed for you.
jc - Blackjack vodka?? I don't even like vodka but that sounds scrumptious. We used to get a blackjack for 1/2p when I was young.. showing my age there!
Molly - please take care of yourself and go see the Dr today please! We will expect a report back so we know you are OK.
Pink - hope your MIL continues to improve
Dazi - the bunting sounds lovely, any chance of a pic?
nmlc - glad your husbands nan is recovering well.
I was just talking to Tris.. on the phone, not messenger. He hasn't much of a voice so is mostly listening, but it is so nice to hear him, even if it is mostly breathing and coughing. I am one happy bunny!
xmastree.gif Had a lovely relaxed Sunday.. we didn't have chicken in the end we had shoulder of pork and it was horrible.. really fatty. So disappointed in that. Am in two minds whether to mention it to Tescos as we usually buy from there but this one was not good.
xmastree.gif Am doing a Sainsburys order as Tescos online did not have any of the large turkeys left so we decided to order from S for a change. Also picked up a couple of jars of their curry sauce at 9p each to see what it is like.
xmastree.gif Lunch today will be - something easy like beans on toast and spanish omelette for dinner with left over veg and potatoes from the roast last night. WM is on and so is the TD. The cat has been fed and is lying on the sofa behind me on her little rug, purring her head off. I am having weetabix and banana for breakfast.
I hope everyone has a good start to the week! To anyone feeling under the weather - get well soon. With love and light and HShuggies.gif for all.

  • Good morning Diva and all to follow,
Well i managed to sleep until 3.30am this morning which is better than most days!
I made my first ever bread rolls last night and the children had them warm with butter and jam for supper, i'm sure with practice they will become better but they were quite nice for a first try :0)
I'm planning on phase one of Christmas declutter today starting with my kitchen cupboards, it will be nice to be able to open one without things falling out lol.
Eldest ds has earned £40 between me and his father as i got a letter from his school on Saturday to tell me he is the highest achieving boy in his whole year, so i have promised him i will take him shopping after school today to get the pair of football boots he has been yearning after for months.

Diva - sorry to hear your pork wasn't nice, i would deffinately mention it to tesco, no harm in trying after all!
Let me know what the curry sauce is like, i usually buy the 4p tesco one and the kids love it but it is slightly too sweet for me.
And as usual my thoughts are with Tristan, hope he has a good day today x

Hope everyone to follow has a good day,

    Leigh xx

    Hi Guys!

Ive not slept much, but think it's because I am nervous about the mammogram later today. It's 2.5hrs till the nurse comes too and everyone else is asleep:rolleyes:

I finished up the last of the Xmas shopping last night from Body shop as they had a glitch on their 3 for 2 with the dearest item going through free. The order should have been around £90 (for 6 items and a freebie) with delivery etc, but after the glitch and the 30% discount floating around it came to £22:j:j:j...I treated myself to their MW heated slippers which are £20 a pair anyway. Thanks Mrs MCW!

Dinner yesterday was Gammon, roasts, mash, carrots, sprouts, sweetcorn and yorkies. Today we are having a sausage cassarole with mixed peppers, mushrooms, onions, beans, carrots, peas and a Lidl sachet. Will do a baked spud with it too.

WM needs to go on and there is a ton of ironing for OH. Lots of stuff need finishing off as we are away next week.

    MSD-I love reading your posts.

    Take care everyone.

    PP
    xx

  • Pen-pin - huge hugs and supportive vibes going out to you today for your mammogram hon. And thank you so much for the compliment! That was lovely of you. Well done on the Body Shop order that sounds amazing.

Heavenleigh - well done on the bread rolls. I think I like rolls almost better than a big loaf. I remember they were one of the first things we ever baked at school in Domestic Science. And well done to your son, that is a great achievement!

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • Morning everyone

I had a cracker in my advent calendar today.

Put the Christmas deccies up yesterday, so my lounge is looking nice and festive :D

Need to make the packed lunches in a mo, get bathed, dressed and ready for work.

Dinner tonight will be cottage pie.

    Good luck Penny Pincher xxx

    Have a great day everyone

    Morning.

Wet and rainy here, what a surprise?????? Not. Our holiday destination is snow and - 16 forecast for wednesday.....:D

shoulder of pork and it was horrible.. really fatty. So disappointed in that. Am in two minds whether to mention it to Tescos as we usually buy from there but this one was not good.

Sorry to hear about the pork Diva, I looked at that but when i saw it was shoulder I gave it a miss. Pork shoulder is always fatty and Tesco do not trim it before selling. I used to butcher once. Always buy leg. Sainsbury had leg on offer last week and beef too...

I am on a course this week so I have to drive to Exeter in the rain. (80 miles) At least it starts at 10 today, so I can leave a bit later.

Our office meal this evening, so looking forward to that, I wish we had saved up and paid through the year!

    Must go, sandwiches........

    Morning :hello:
    In my calendar - a cracker :snow_grin
Oooooh my tummy - feels like the food is just kind of sat there  It was yummy though :D If it had been lunchtime, I'd have eaten three times as much :D Hostess made the mistake of asking about growing veg and keeping chickens (she's planning her garden at the mo) so I rambled on and on about OS and bored her to death. Wasn't my fault, it was all the wine. She laughed at me when I said I want a couple of goats :D

Pen-Pin, thinking of you today

Really must start Christmas shopping :undecided No-one knows what they want. If they don't decide quickly, the teens will end up with homemade soap, candles and notebooks, which they definitely won't be impressed with, lol.

Need to plan the Christmas Eve food, and ring my nan to make sure she's coming and arrange a lift for her.
