Some phones just survive hydro encounters better than others. My GFs nokia 6230 went swimming in a handbag full of water, and worked fine after taking it apart and leaving it on a warm radiator for 12 hours.
However, an old motorola I had (cant remember what model) died from 'water damage' after I used it when out in the rain.DONE: Great North Run 09! Raised £452 for the National Autistic Society

Did the same thing with my 1st PAYG phone - took it back to the Carphone Warehouse, said it had just stopped working & they replaced no questions asked! Also meant I got another free £5 credit!!!My views are irrelevant - censorship is alive & well!0

We have just got 2 new phones (new Sony Erricson W810I) through "Dialaphone" with TMobile. The package that we got with these phones included various things including 3 months free phone insurance.
Now here comes the problem. My wife has just accidently put hers through the washing machine :-( It was in there for 20 mins before she realised.........
Obiously the phone is now knackered. Luckily though I thought (stupidly) we have those 3 months of free phone insurance. But on looking at the details of the policy I find it has more holes in it than a peice of swiss cheese (see link below for conditions)
http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/insurancedocs/PD_DAP_UNREG_040305.htm
So on looking at the policy I see that it is not covered for "water damage" (or much else for that matter)
I do although have like most people home contents insurance. Mine is with the Nationwide Building Society (Churchills) and I have a policy that covers me for accidental damage. Does anyone know if my water damaged phone will be covered, and if not or if it does what is the best way of comunnicating my claim to the Nationwide so that I don't mess up my chances of getting a new phone out of them, if you see what I mean? Please help, as my poor wife is really really upset....0 -
Another case of the company being quick enough to take your money, but when it comes to giving you something back, the worm their way out of it! I can't see what that insurance covers, if anything at all! Pretty shocking! It has more holes that a cheese grater - keeping with your cheese theme!
Is it actually knackered though? Bit of a stupid question I know, but of late there have been a few similar incidents to yours, where someone gives their mobile an all expenses paid holiday to the Washing Machine, but they take their phone apart, dry it out for a few days as well as giving it a bit of a blast with a hairdryer and Bob is your Uncle and their phone is like new again. Possibly even cleaner than it was new too!
Hope either the drying method works or you find a solution somehow!0 -

I assume that you have removed the back and battery already and the main this is to be patient and let it dry out slowly. Many phones do recover from these accidents but only re-fit the battery again after a few days of drying out! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yes we have taken the battery out & Sim & it is drying we will leave it for a few days to see what happenes. Cheers0

Don't give up just yet, a friend has done this twice with a Siemens and it still works fine! Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Hi,
You could try and claim on your home contents insurance, as most policies will cover this.
What network are you on and who provides your phone insurance?
Vodafone's insurance policy does cover you for water damage but not if you've attempted to open up the device to dry it out.
Hope this helps.0
