The office I'm at is shut between Christmas and New Year so I'll be off too - any time in that week (apart from Boxing Day!) will be absolutely fine. Or one weekend after or something. I'm sure we can arrange something. The mad dog will be pleased to see you. I shall start collecting cones up and popping them somewhere to dry for you.

And you don't need to clear the ash out EVERY day. A certain layer of ash helps (don't ask me why, but in my experience it does) and it means the clinker in it gets burnt too.

ETA I have just surpassed myself. Since DS and DiL moved out, I've started making puddings again when they come to Sunday Roast. I have just taken out of the oven the most delicious smelling and looking pineapple upside down cake made using fresh pineapple. It even remained intact when I tipped it out onto a plate! I'm chuffed I am, dead chuffed!

Well done on the pudding soappie.

As for the fire - there's an ash pan below the grate, which I need to empty when it gets full as otherwise it blocks the air from the inlet. The smokeless fuel seems to need riddling regularly to let air through, while the wood burns better on a bed of embers...

I can't believe your office is closed between Christmas and New Year ... well I suppose I can actually, given how efficient they are ;). I'll drop you an email sometime to sort something out. I'm working then, but it shouldn't be too busy, so I may be able to block out some time for admin/paperwork and avoid the phone...

Supper eaten... I'm going to sit by the fire with a book, a glass of wine and some chocolate, and then have a bath and hopefully and earlyish night. I have to get up early tomorrow to prep for a call (and I have to do some exercises as I'm back to see the physio again tomorrow :eek:)

Greenbee - What do you do with the cakes once you have made them then? Do you do birthday cakes??!!:rotfl:
I try to find people who will eat them! This one was for a friend's baby shower, so some of it was eaten and she's taken the rest home for her & her husband to work their way through during the week!

I only do them for other people if there is no pressure - although they're getting easier! It helps if I have the cakes made up in the freezer, so just have the decorating to do. And I buy coloured sugarpaste on the web rather than colouring it up myself, which saves a lot of time. People tend to get cakes instead of presents quite often, which works well, as most of them have enough junk already, so are quite pleased to have something that is pretty much gone by the end of the party, but is also unique!

Brats deposited in bed.. DD3 got a flea in her ear.. I asked her this morning if her sheet was wet and she said no.. then said as she was getting IN bed tonight it was we.. so I told her off for not checking this morning when I asked.. for needing to be told to check it in the first place.. you wake, it's wet, you strip it.. where is the big deal in that? She is 9 next Saturday it isn't a difficult task for her!

DD3, Moomin and Tiddles got a slap.. they are still being $h!ts at bed time.. but the 5-6 times going in to yell/slap/remove toys/turn off lights has become.. once.. which is a vast improvement.. but I will have it back to the old way of.. bed = sleep.. I don't mind if they read for a bit or draw just so long as they stay in bed and are quiet.. it really isn't a lot to ask!!

The boys had their computer turned off at the wall.. they had had 4 warnings and refused to turn it off so I did it the quick way..

I think I am back to my evil self.. OH thinks I have gone doolally!!! lol.. I've cleaned like a freak today, caught up on the laundry and been vile to the children.. the boys didn't get their advent calendar so are beasting about that.. they had plenty of time to do as they were told..

anyway.. don't expect a nice list tomorrow.. I'm having a grouch!

Wonder if af is likely to be turning up this week.. I have that 'I know I'm in a grump but can't do anything about it' feeling I get with PMT.. if that is it I'll be fine tomorrow.. :D

Thats really good, you are very talented :T I think when you do something unique like that it shows how much thought you have put into it. I made personalised hampers for 4 people this year so I will see how they go down, they look good though ;).
