Private plates-good idea or chavtastic?

Not very money saving, but I did buy my OH a personalised plate for a birthday. It has J then the age he was on that birthday, then his initials. He loved it! Personally I wouldn't want one, but for the person who has everything they want I would say go for it if you want one!
Yes it was a lot of money at the time (£250), but OH has now had this plate for 7 years and he still loves it, says it's one of the best presents I've ever bought him.0 -
The only ones I like are the 'proper' ones. No prefix letter, just number(s) and initials that mean something. If you have to have a number to make it look like a word then sorry but I hate them.
Having said that I'm sure a £250 reg plate will still fetch the same if you come to sell it so you haven't lost anything.
My ex boss kitted all his family cars out with them - one or two up to the £10k mark but having sorted out the telephone auctions with him there's hot competition for the 3 letter and 1 or 2 number variety. He will always get his money back and for those he bought many years ago - a sound profit. But he does have lovely cars to put them on.0 -
I say each to their own. Personally I wouldn't do it, as several people have mentioned you are easily recognisable even more so if you are in a sporty car. I love my car (Golf GTI) to bits but it stands out enough without needing any other unwanted attention. As for the chav factor it all depends on the car and sometimes I find certain 'names' can make it look more chavtastic.Married 1st October 2015:heartpuls
