Private plates-good idea or chavtastic?

I once saw a car parked at Brands Hatch and its number was PEN 1S. Which just about summed up the driver as far as I was concerned.
I was picking up my car from the garage the other day and I heard the receptionist telling someone on the phone to come in and bring some unaltered number plates with them. They said they would not issue an MOT until there were legal plates on the car. Some people seem to think that the rules do not apply to them.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
In my opinion the only real PP is a dateless one (not the cheap irish ones) Problem is BOB 1 will cost more that the house!0

I've got one and love it!
Bought fm a DVLA auction some years ago. It's a fully legal plate (i.e. no extra screws or font changes).
Was expensive (about £1000 ish) but at the time I had the money.0 -
I wouldnt really call it chavvy but it is certainly a complete waste of money!0

I had an unusual number plate by accident not design on my last car and to be honest I was a bit worried it would be targetted by the "keying"/braking wipers brigade or whatever.
Id think it was a great idea if EVERYONE could have them as it would be so much easier to trace in an accident or crime if we all had personalised ones which were easy to remember.0 -
My login is my plate S30 is my birthday Sept 30th and JOK is my nickname at work. if you do go ahead and get one buy it from the dvla website http://dvlaregistrations.direct.gov.uk/home/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=DVLA&utm_campaign=sem also when you select the plate you want you can view it on your car!
if you buy one from these other registration websites you will have to pay an £80 fee on top of the advertised price on the dvla site you dont have to.
My mum and dad bought mine and it cost £249 and has been transferred many times, i always ask the dealer to include it in the price of the new car when haggling!Wins so Far: 21" lcd monitor, 6 day all expenses paid holiday to China, 8800GTX gfx card, 2x Panasonic cameras, 12 cups and Loads of Twix's, Coffee Lovers Hamper - Wild bean cafe. Private plates can be money savvy (if not money saving), I know a few people who have had them for years, they must be worth more now than when they bought them because they seem more popular now.
