You know what?, sounds like there were some really good crap cars

Today the crap car is gone, standards have been raised, to the benefit of us, the consumers:T:T:T, just a few posters that live in the past,
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
What a car- Massive on the inside with the seats folded down- Came in usfull as a teenager (for carrying stuff around of course!;))The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.

One of my best "crap" cars was an old Mk3 Ford Cortina (white with a black vinyl roof) 1.6. I paid £80 for it, ran it around for a couple of months, and then sold it on for £120 when the MOT and tax ran out. It was so reliable, but so BAD!!!!!!!0

Mine has to be one of two talbot horizons I owned, first one cost 300 drove for a year and a half, till the pneumatic clutch went, (I used to have to top it up every morning with a fairy bottle full of clutch fluid.)
I saw the second one for 100 and bought it to strip for spares for mine, it was in better condition though so I ended up driving it instead. I crashed into the back of a renault once, my first at fault crash, we pulled off the road, his rear bumper was split in half and his back dented, he may have been unisured though cos he couldnt get away fast enough, he didn't even ask for money. I was a tad worried till I checked my own damage, not a scratch. Check out the front bumper next time you see a talbot horizon, I am not kidding it is a bloody GIRDER!!! No wonder there was no damage he had a cheap plastic bumper I had a lump of solid metal!! A true amazing crap car.0 -

Just reading this thread has reminded me of the first two cars I ever had - the first one was a Hillman Hunter - my then boyfriend rebuilt the engine over several months in our kitchen - it was a lovely car after that - shame his brother totalled it by driving it into a lampost. After that we only had £50 to replace it with, so we bought an Avenger, I think it was - belonged to our uni lecturer's son, had a distinctive paint job on the front bonnet and the kid was a speed king, so the cops picked us up practically every time we went out in it, as they thought it still belonged to the boy racer. However, the really unique thing about it, which I'd forgotten till just now was the very special suspension system under the front passenger seat - the chair was held in place by a log, because the fixings had nothing else to hold onto, as the floor there had rusted away. You could see the road beneath you as you went along.
It always started, though!!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
First car a 1979 Mk 2 Ford Escort 1.3L bought for £880. Rear wheel drive!
At 80,000 miles the engine popped, put in a second hand but good engine paid £95 for that and spend a cold February installing it with a neighbour, skint knuckles and painfully cold hands.
Later I started to find holes in the body work, in particular I remember where the spare wheel went vertically at the side of the boot rust through. I patched it up with and old Heineken beer can and plastic padding (fixes the holes other beer cans cannot reach :rotfl:).
I replaced the contact breakers with electronic ignition which did woners for cold starting.
Eventually sold it for £750 to a girl who was so enthusistic because "it has carpets", apparently here previous Escort didn't. As they drove away I notices threads pocking out of the completely worn rear tyres.
Lots of fond memories of that car which I had aged 17 to 19 year old, but I don't think I share those on a public forum
