try lakelandlimited.com they have carpet stain remover that comes highly recommended.

Otherwise using other remedies depends on what kind of drink it was.... red wine for instance?

My dayghter had an end of show party for her school theatre group last week and the morning after I complimented her on how clean everything was, no drinks spilt or anything. A few days later I noticed there were dark blobs all over the carpet - they had been throwing popcorn around (my fault for buying it but I thought at 16 they might not do that!) which had gone all sticky overnight. Has anyone got any handy tips for cleaning the whole thing? Like I said it isn't deep stains, just sticky stuff that has attracted dirt.

Hi everyone,
Im facing a dilemma at the moment. I couple of weeks ago a freind of mine helped me move a bed in his van to my new flat. During the transfer though it brought in something with it and left a mark on the carpet which i just cant get out. At first I thought it was just dirt from the garden, but after some vigorous scrubbing the stain was still there in all it's glory. Ive tried some pretty expensive stain removal products (vanish powershot and "power carpet") but neither have even touched it.

Im quickly running out of ideas and now im worried that im going to loose my deposit for ruining the carpet (my flat is rented).

Here are some images of the stains, i have no idea what they are but a freind suggested it could be oil or grease of some kind.

What do you think it is, and what can I do to get rid of it?!

Thanks,
Rob

It look like mucky engine oil to me. A paste of bio washing powder ought to shift it.

Otherwise you could try this info I cut and pasted from https://www.howtocleananything.com
Oil - motor from carpet <!-- an=navigator.appName;sr='http://x3.extreme-dm.com/';srw="na";srb="na";d=document;r=41;function pr(n) !! d.write("[img][/img] <!-- s=screen;srw=s.width;an!="Netscape"?srb=s.colorDepth:srb=s.pixelDepth//--> <!-- pr()//--> <img src="http://x3.extreme-dm.com/z/?tag=hca&p=http://www.howtocleananything.com/tipdetails.asp?tid=692&j=n" height="1" width="1">General Info:
Be sure to check the helpful hints for the Do's and Don'ts of stain removal and Six Sure Ways to Set Stains.

Tools & Chemicals:
Dry cleaning solvent, dish washing or fine fabric detergent, white terry towels, white vinegar, warm water, measuring cup, vacuum. Dry cleaning solvents can be purchased at your grogery store or at your local carpet cleaning supply retailer.

Technique:

• Work on removing the stain as soon as you notice it. The longer the stain is left on the carpet the greater the chances are of the stain setting.
• In every case remove all excess wet or dry material before attempting to clean. Blot wet materials using a white terry towel (check helpful hints for a detailed description of blotting). Vacuum excess dry materials or gently scrape up materials with a spoon.

• Apply a small amount of dry cleaning solvent to the white terry towel and blot the stain. Continue until no further transfer of material to the towel is apparent.
• If the stian remains proceed to the next step.
• Mix 1/2 tsp. of dish washing soap or fine fabric detergent into 1 (8 oz.)cup of warm water.

• Apply a small amount, blot or tamp and repeat until the stain is removed. Be patient. Complete removal may require repeating the same step several times. Tamp down on the carpet, do not scrub as this may disort the texture of the pile.

• Cover the stain with the towel and press down repeatedly to absorb the stain material and detergent.

• Once the stain is completely removed, rinse the area with cold water; blot with a dry white terry towel until all moisture is removed. Repeat this process several times to remove cleaning solution residue. (Residue can attract soils).
• If the spot or stain turns brownish when dry, mix 1 part white vinegar and two parts water. Apply a small amount and blot. Repeat only once.

Precautions:
Never use a stronger concentration than is recommended. Never use laundry detergent or automatic dish washing detergents because they may destroy or dye some fibers. Never use non-volatile solvents as they can cause delamination in synthetic carpets either immediately or over a period of time. Non-volatile solvents do not dissipate at room temperture & will remain in your carpet. Never pour solvents directly onto your carpet or saturate your carpet. Instead apply the solvent to a white terry towel and blot the stained area. Never use highly combustible solvents such as gasoline or paint thinners.

Don't forget to do a patch test in a corner where the carpet is not usually seen to make sure you don't get colour runs with whichever cleaning agent you choose before you do it out in the open. You don't want to make things worse :)

Next time you are on line could you make your picture a bit smaller please. For those reading at lower resolutions your picture width forces them to have to scroll back and forth to read the text.

TYIA :)
