Oh no they're not.
Tempting as it is to engage in a bit of seasonal pantomime.....;)
They really are, in the vast majority of the country outside of London.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Based on the new way of working out affordability, yes, they are.
I.e. working it out based on those who have bought and then using their household income to determine their LTV.0 -

No Graham.... By working it out based on the national average of house prices, and the national average of wages.
Remember, it was said that a couple could afford to buy.
So 2 incomes....
Average house price around 160K. Average median income around 24K, so 48K joint. Multiple of around 3 times income plus a small deposit.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Yes, just what I said.
Household income = total of wages bought into the house.
So am I wrong, or right, hamish? If I'm wrong, then so are you, and that can't happen, can it?!0 -

No Graham, despite your attempts to twist the conversation around, I won't let you do it.
You said....working it out based on those who have bought and then using their household income to determine their LTV.
It doesn't have to be those who have bought. It is affordable to any 2 people on the average wage. Whether they be a couple, or siblings, or mates, or whatever.
Carol disputed that 2 people could afford to buy. She was wrong, based on national average house prices and incomes they can.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

he does this ALL of the time - says one thing then 5 posts later says he never said it and then it becomes the Graham Devon show. :rolleyes:0 -

Aaah - but no good for those who live in and around London, is it?
I'm not moving to effing Aberdeen. :eek:0 -
A per original post, if you can't - you won't. Can't see what all the talk is about,- it's really rather simple, you can bang on about it all you like but- if you Can't you WON'T be able to....
Unless you get another part time job or a lodger or lessen your expectations you simply cant. Just be content with the rented accommodation you have & realise you'll never own a home of your own.0 -
Excuse me but I am intrigued by this 'can't -won't' business, especially the 'can't' bit.
I have questioned many who have put up this 'oh, property prices are just beyond me' wail in the past and surprising things have shown up.
One of them was from a young couple intending to wed and who each lived with his/her parents, paying next to no subsistence. They 'couldn't afford' to buy, no matter how far ahead they looked, even though together they had a verifiable £25k income.
It seems that, although they had been engaged for nearly three years, during the whole of that time they had managed to save ZERO towards a deposit.
Words fail me.
Spending all their cash on multiple holidays abroad, flashy cars and the down-the-pub-every-night syndrome, they wondered how it was that the cruel lenders wouldn't entertain their applications...
Just what proportion of the 'can't - won't' wailers is represented by such folk, I wonder..?0
