That won't happen. It's not logical. One reason prices are rising are BTL'ers coming in and snapping up reasonably priced property. Iv'e had mine on the market, family home good area etc and am getting viewings from folk who'se money is just sat in the bank.

MY preference to sell to a young family or ftb'ers but these family homes ( which are in such demand in the SE) are being outstripped by those with funds available.

But I havn't sold yet, so hey ho????

I do wonder what the point of family homes will be in future if prices don't fall. There isn't any affordable FTB property anymore so by the time a couple can finally afford the even more unaffordable family homes theiy children will have grown up and left home. So why would people want to live in them

It's very hard and I think it comes down at the bottom and the availability of social housing etc. I feel for you and am really quite pessamistic about any options you may have (NOT) ahead.

I will sell this house and will have to find my own way using up capital but have neighbours who have not only security of tenure for the rest of their lives, but (dirt) cheap rent, no repairs and the choice of moving to bigger or more viable homes ( more kids!!)

I can see this whole debacle from my own perstective and it's a no win situation for lots of people. There is cheaper property available but is it really afforble. I don't think so. I hate to say it but it does come down to immigration, single young mums etc and very poor management by the Gov at the end of the day.

They've been told time and time again over many, many years this situation was going to arise unless they did something about it, at the time.

We''ll all be here in the year 2020 when there's more of a shortage of affordable houses to buy or rent and less homes built, same immigration.

    I just don't know.

I'm resigned to probably never owning. I've got a good conscientious landlord and my rent hasn't gone up in years. I've learned to count my blessings (especially about not having any responsibility/expense if the boiler blows up/shower stops working etc.) No upward pressure on prices from this direction.
