Back to the OP, have you checked if the local authority provide a policy that covers staff whilst on work business?
  • Hi all.

Glider, I think your suggestion may be my next move as I went back to my broker but they are adamant that they have quoted me the correct amount, even though I did specifically say it was Class 1 business.

!!!!!!, was also expecting to pay a nominal extra charge - was (still am) outraged!!

    Rudekid - I'm afraid I can't give you my tel no for a lift as I wouldn't be insured...:rotfl:

We will have to check with Pastra whether it would make a difference if it was pre booked or you picked Rudekid up off a rank
  • Well the council don't have a general policy.

MMA don't cover business use so I if I stay with A Plan I now have to go through Zurich at £383.

Shall I bother? Or pay the admin fee to leave and go elsewhere?

For a comparision, £145 for a peugeot 106, insured for a teacher, carrying kids, colleagues, used for travel to conferences, etc, then with £70 cashback, from the co-op. My wife last June.

OP - aren't your employers paying you a mileage allowance? The Inland Revenue allow up to 40p per mile. The allowance is intended to cover costs such as this.

Back on topic, I suspect the problem is that you are with an insurer who was fine for your needs when your policy started. Many insurers don't charge extra for personal business use but some do. You're probably just unlucky.

Thanks to pastra whose ill informed tripe has brightened up my morning.
