Arrrgh it gets worse! Just spoken to someone on the phone. 'We don't accept Electron, Solo, or Visa Connect or prepay Mastercard either'
They have no idea what they're talking about!
So it looks as though not only do they not take my electron/visa debit, they wouldn't take my barclays visa debit if I got one NOR my cashplus card if I got that!!!
Grrr if hubby didn't work for them I'd be tempted to use lots of expletives to describe M&S!!!

This is bizarre, now i'm more confused than ever. Thanks for doing that fermi. I don't know whether to bother with a prepay now as one of the main reasons was the M&S clothes online for my girls.0

The person on the phone is correct. Even the website says so: http://www.marksandspencer.com/Payment-Options-Ordering-Help/b/463260310 -
Unfortunately it says different things on different parts of their website about paying online. Some list an exclusion, some don't.
Seems like M&S can't decide either.
Guess that only definitive answer will come when someone here tries to order something.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hello xxxxxxxxx
Thank you for your email.
I can confirm that we do accept full Visa Debit cards as long as they are not Visa electrons. If your Visa card is a connect card and is still a full visa debit card we can accept it.
I apologise John for the inconvenience caused and hope this is helpful to your enquiry.
We value your custom and hope you continue to shop with us...

By the looks of things, they accept Connect cards. The 4659 and 4658 prefixes (Barclay debit card prefixes) are Visa Debits according to Barclays website you posted about BIN numbers.
Supermarkets accept Connect cards, as they are Visa Debit. A lot of retailers accept those cards.0 -
I still don't think M&S have a clue book12! According to their own website, on the link you posted yesyerday, they say, 'Please note: We don't accept Visa Electron, Solo or Connect for online orders.' and I had an email saying the same.
Like Fermi said yesterday I think the only way we'll really know is if someone tries to place an order, then posts on here to let us know. As it took them 9 full days (grrr!) to let me know they couldn't accept my Electron last week (I know I could have checked beforehand but as I'd never experienced a problem paying anywhere with it till then I didn't envisage a problem!), I won't be trying again without knowing for sure in advance.
So frustrating.

Well for what it's worth, here's my latest email from M&S on this subject!
'Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for contacting us about the card you'd like to use as payment.
I've looked into your query and can confirm that you are able to use your Barclay's VISA debit card.
I hope this helps and thanks for getting in touch, may you have a lovely weekend.'
I gave them the bin number of the VISA debit cards and told them we are being given conflicting info. I asked for a final, correct answer and this was the response.
Do we believe it though?! Haha.

Not sure I have 100% faith in it either, but at least you gave them all the info they could need to give them the best chance at a right answer.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
