Which is why most actually highly intelligent people don't use it as a trump card in a argument.

Either you're bright enough and well informed enough to come out of a debate well or you're not.

Doesn't really affect anything if you can post a high score on a IQ test.

Yes, thank you everyone, I am well aware that IQ means diddly squat and there are geniuses sweeping the street and idiots running the world and people with high IQs are often odd/eccentric/impractical.
I'm also highly confident in my debating skills (sorry!).
I wouldn't really call what has occurred on this thread a 'debate' though, more an abusefest.
When conversing with rude and ignorant people who fling abuse for no reason, I don't really see much point in trying to conduct any proper debate, and I had got to a really rather !!!!ed off state with the abuse, hence the careless IQ comment.
I'm not going to participate in this thread any longer, I'll leave you all to it. Enjoy!

If the Op bid £400 and the buyer who won the item had also put his highest bid at £400 then wouldn't this be the reason he was outbid. Not sure but is this the reason the price didn't go up?

I've seen some pretty horrendous threads in my time, and IMO this one reads as pretty civil, good humoured throughout, no bad insults bring thrown around... The disguised profanity, which I actually found very funny, seemed born of exasperation rather than aggression.

Willa, you're probably feeling differently about the whole thing because your argument was in the minority, but don't think of it as a massacre. The flaw in your debate was there was no evidence to back it up, and it turned out the OP's problem was a whole other eBay glitch.
