Well, I shall be taking some photo's of my Children in the School Play. As far as I am aware we were 'allowed' to do so last year and I shall be doing the same again this year regardless.
World has gone mad . What ever happened to common sense?

We were told this too! Seems very odd to me - especially as they have a Class Photo taken every summer with the names of all the Children underneath it! :rotfl:

because polishbigspender (and paparika can probably confirm this) !!!!!philes DO spend a lot of time surfing the internet and school websites have become a fave place for them. As some schools are very naive and give out far too much information about the pupils.
as I said before - the schools address is on the site - a !!!!!phile could easily have accessed this and thought oh thats a little cutie - blond and blue eyed and aged 3 - 4. and now i know her first name and she was star of the week last week! easy for them to strike up a conversation with her and convince the kid he knew her parents! also, its a small village school - the !!!!!phile would have known that she didnt live far away - and would likely be easy to find outside school too.
 Thats why I was horrified!0

It got me wondering. I'm taking my 5 month old son to a kids 1st year birthday party soon - i'm actually a little paranoid of taking photos there now.
I would certainly expect that school photographers are crb checked if they can be...
I work in the security industry now, and the company is SIA registered. A few security companies also offer CRB- as an additional "added bonus" - its not asked for, SIA is THE check/certification. Firms that offer both appeal more commercially to more markets- I wouldnt see why a photographer would be any different. ( altohugh there used to be a need to work with vulnerable people in order to get it)
I have been CRB checked and cleared for 10 years now, ( first in social care, now in security) It looks good on my CV and shows integrity.
CRB checks are not a bad thing. However, they can only show crime that has been recorded- but a lot better than we used to have just a few short years ago when anyone could ave access to children and vulnerable adults. ( im not saying that people with crb checks dont do bad stuff btw) Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
 This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0

I think that you have to remember that most of us won't ever come into contact with anyone who exhibits that kind of behaviour, the reason these stories make the news is because they are so rare.
We can't go around worrying that every person we meet will hurt our children, and we must learn to strike a balance between teaching children 'stranger danger' and frightening them to the point where they cannot function as part of a community as they are too scared of people they don't know.
no - we cant go around suspecting every person we meet - but we MUST be aware that in this day and age - the internet age - strangers ARE suspect!
you are right in that there is a balance to be found. because of her job paparika knows exactly how these people function - and how they are not suspected by parents because they are so 'charming honest reliable people'.
what most people dont realise is that !!!!!philes will spend a LOT of time researching their victim. they will befriend the parents. or they may be in positions of trust or authority. and unfortunately - they ARE more common than you think!
its up to parents to be aware - 'why is your best friend offering to babysit'
why does your kids best friends dad offer sleepovers?
kids dont always tell about innapropriate touching - so dont think your child would tell you if something was wrong - odds are they wouldnt!0

Errr, because best friends often have sleepovers but I would imagine dad (or mum) has to give permission . Oh but of course no, he's a man, therefore he must be a sex offender with designs on his child's best friend . . Honestly, this "everyone's a p aedophile until proved otherwise" stuff really winds me up - I worry for DH when he takes the children to parties or school or whatever. I couldn't go to DD's school concert last year (long story) so he videoed it for me - I wonder how many mums thought "oh, he's a man, he's filming a school concert = p aedopile". Going on this thread there may have been afew. And how dare they!
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0

Yet we are invited to purchase class photographs once a year.............
class photographs, official dvds of the school play and photos on school website can all be checked by staff to make sure that anyone who doesn't have parental permission for photos/video isn't in the pictures. A 'protected' child in a full donkey suit might take off his head to scratch his nose etc. so the school wouldn't want that moment to be captured by another parent.
None of my son's class photos have his whole class on. I know that one child was being fostered after abuse, and that child was never on the pictures. A consent form goes out in advance - we are warned about photos and can refuse our permission or make a dentist appointment etc. if we want to avoid the situation.
The permission for website photos might have been part of the general admissions forms when the child started school. I have signed forms each time and have always had the option for my child's photo/name etc. not to be published.52% tight0

Oh, we had letters about our plays today and I moaned about the rule about not putting our photos on the internet, because I usually put them on facebook and tag my friend's children too. Rules state we cannot publish them at all, not even emailing them to grannies etc.
They are in reception, and while it may just be a blanket school rule there was no such rule when they were in nursery. I took pics of lots of children who aren't my own at their ;graduation' ceremony.
There were no rules about not taking pics, only about not standing in front of other parents, and no distracting children and ruining the play for everyone. It was just about manners.52% tight0

They can just as well overhear you or other kids calling the girl by her name on the playground. I gather that 3-4 year old doesn't walk the streets alone, does she? So how can anyone weird approach her? From Poland...with love.

They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0
