Fiat 500 or Hyundai I10?

My dad has ordered an i10 Comfort on the scrappage deal. For £6100 he has got air con, electric windows all round, electric mirrors, alloys, remote locking, decent sized boot, supposedly over 50MPG, £35 a year car tax, cheap insurance, 5 year warranty. But on the downside there's a huge waiting list as its the most popular on the scrappage scheme and the dealer aren't expecting delivery until Jan/Feb. There's a forum here for them and most people seem very happy with the car.

Absolutely agree that the skoda is better value than the VW and no doubt the i10 is wonderful value too. But sometimes, its so nice to let heart rule head0

yes, but the majority of used cars coming through are 1.4 sports, as that isnt shifting as well as the 1.2 lounge is, and most are nigh on list price, there are no bargains to be had. so even if someone buying on scrappage deal, sells a car for £1k under list, (dont know of any dealers offering prices like this, yet), then they will still walk away with £1k profitCarMadMoneySaver wrote: »What I meant was that there is a car (Ka) out there which is virtually identical to drive as the FIAT, which will be far easier to sell on when you're done with it. You'll be able to sell a small Ford on anywhere in future. The 500 looks like it is going to remain a cool car, and so also easy to sell on, but there is a slight risk it might go the way of the Chrysler PT Cruiser (remember those?) - fashionable for a while and now largely forgotten (and thus difficult to sell on). Doubt it, but you'd never struggle to sell a Ford in a sensible colour
i agree, you have no trouble selling a ford, as people are under the illusion its a brand you can trust. But the majority of cars being traded in against the Fiat 500, are KAs. so based on that, it would appear, given the choice, at the moment most people prefer the 500 over the KA, even knowing their cars history and reliability, they still want to own a 500, rather than a new KA.
You cant really compare it to the Chrysler PT, as tbh they were odd looking cars, that didnt sell anywhere near their expectations. whereas the 500 is actually outperforming its predicated sales. ok this, might be because its release coincided with the scrappage scheme, and the BSM deal has upped units, but i do think the 500, is going to be one of those classic 'style icon' cars - even the original hairdryer 500s still have a charm about them, which you couldnt really say about a MK1 fiesta (although it would cost you way more to buy a classic 500, as they seem to have held their price better, so....)

i10 if you want reliability and low costs. If you'll be keeping the car for 4 years + its the best choice
If you're only going to keep the car for a few years there won't be a lot of difference and so go for the looks if thats what you want.
As for the Ford KA some have mentioned, Ford had very little input in the design bar the look and suspension settings. The engines are Fiat and not Ford, thats no bad thing as the only good small engines in Ford have been made by other people (Yamaha or Mazda).0 -
500 was a good 'deal' for Fiat - supposedly recouped a good proportion of their development costs, by letting Ford in the door to build new KA. Ford don't build rubbish cars (not many brands do either)
It is a Panda 'underneath', which is now a proven success story & more reliable than Fiats of old. Not sure if we can blam the build quality changes on the factory in Titchy, (good name for the town) Poland, or clever design. It will also become a Chrysler when built in Mexico.
It's doing same as 'new' MINI & 'new' Beetle, so if that's your thing, get one. You could - if the page is still up - personalize it on the Fiat website & build one just how you want it.
The Hyundai is a good car & if it wasn't for Fords fleet business, they'd actually be UK's number 1 selling brand.
Funky car - buy a 500 - but take care how much xtra, you pay for xtras, 'cos like MINI, you won't get this back when you sell it on.
OK car - Hyundai. Will do the job & probably won't sell quite as easily used, but won't be a 'bad' deal.
Look at Panda & you'll find it handles well & be good value & sell on easily.
Look at KA - Fords service network & people thinking Ford better than Fiat, will help long term
But in the end - GET THE ONE YOU WANT!!
